UPDATE: Maxis Internet Value Plans is strictly for NEW subscribers only. Existing Maxis customers are not eligible to switch even if you’re bounded to any contract. This was also mentioned in their FAQ.
We do not comprehend the reason behind such restriction on existing customers. However if you’re an existing Maxis subscriber, you still can get this plan by porting out to another telco and then port back to Maxis in order to subscribe to Internet Value Plans. UPDATE 2 (6th March 2012): Maxis has revised its Internet Value Plans to allow existing postpaid users to switch over. The updated FAQ reads as below:
Change of rate-plan from other existing postpaid plans are allowed but only applicable to customers who are on a basic line without supplementary lines (Friends & Family benefits are not applicable under this rate plan).
For those that uses data more than making calls and SMS, Maxis now introduces new Value Internet Plans. This is a mobile internet focused plan that offers more data than its earlier introduced Value Plus Internet plans.
There are 2 main options to choose from – Internet Value 50 & 75 which comes with 1.5GB and 3.5GB respectively. Calls and SMS are not included and they are charged based on pay per use basis. Calls within Maxis network are charged at 12sen/min while calls to others are at 20sen/min. For SMS, it is 5sen/SMS within Maxis and 15sen/SMS to other networks. Any additional data usage exceeding your quota is charged at 30sen/MB. If you do exceed, you also have an option to buy additional quota at lower rates.
In addition for greater savings, Maxis is offering a 12 months contract Value Internet 48 plan where you can the same rates and data quota of Internet Value 50 at only RM48/month. Apart from the RM2/month savings, they are offering additional 500MB quota for this plan at just RM5 for 2 weeks which is about RM10/GB.
Depending on your usage and if you hardly make calls and sms with your smart phone, this would be a plan worth considering with its competitive pricing. For those that doesn’t use as much data with a balance mix of phone calls, there’s the Maxis Value Plus Internet which comes with data, calls and SMS.

they’ve got a plan for you.

To use the Internet on your mobile, there are usually 2 routes. Get a data plan which is usually expensive or go on Pay-As-You-Go basis. For light users, a monthly data plan is usually costly and sometimes too much for just the occasional social networking updates and web browsing on your mobile phone. On the other hand, the normal 3G pay-as-you-go rates of 10sen/10KB are just too expensive because 1MB of data will cost you RM10.
So where’s the middle ground? Here’s where the Maxis Value Plus Internet plans come in giving you low commitment plans that also come with mobile internet, calls and SMS.
The Plans

For those that spend a little, you can start off with Value Plus Internet 50 (RM50/monthly) which comes with 250MB of data, 100 minutes of calls and 100 SMS. All bundled calls and SMS are applicable to all local numbers in Malaysia, except of course if you’re on roaming. Additional phone calls are charged at 12sen/minute to Maxis numbers while calls to other networks are charged at 20sen/minute. For SMS, they charge 5sen to Maxis numbers and 15sen to other networks.
For Maxis Value Plus Internet, all additional usages are charged at 30sen per MB which is considerably cheaper than the usual RM10/MB on the normal pay-as-you-go rate. At 30sen/MB, an additional 50MB on your Value Plus Internet plan would cost RM15 as opposed to RM500 if you are to follow the 10sen/10kb pay-as-you-go rate.

If 30sen/MB is too much for you, there’s a cheaper option. The Maxis Value Plus Internet plans also offers time sensitive mobile internet quota upgrades from as little as RM2/hour or RM8/day or RM10/GB for 3 days. This gives you the flexibility to stay connected cheaply when you need the data the most.
According to Maxis, an SMS notification will be sent if you hit 80% of your quota, giving you ample time to plan your quota upgrade purchase. In addition, Maxis does not throttle your data connectivity if you exceed your data quota.
If you need more talk time and use more than 300MB a month, there’s the Value Plus Internet 80 (RM80/monthly) which comes with 500MB data, 300 minutes of calls and 300 SMS.
For just RM30/month extra, you get double the data and triple the number of calls/SMS of the Value Plus Internet 50. Calls to other networks are cheaper too on the Value Plus Internet 80 at 18sen/minute as opposed to 20sen/minute on the Value Plus Internet 50.
Supplimentary Line
Supplementary lines users can get on the mobile internet bandwagon too with the Maxis Value Plus Internet 30 for supplementary line plan. At RM30/month the Value Plus Internet 30 for supplementary lines come with 250MB of data, 50 minutes of talktime and 50 SMS. You also get free 15 hours of talktime and 1500 SMS between family lines.
These new plans from Maxis are great alternatives for light browsers and those who want to stay connected casually but don’t want to commit to expensive data plans. No doubt there are cheaper plans out there in the market but Maxis boasts on having superior voice quality and 3G coverage nationwide. It’s something you can consider if you’re not a hardcore mobile surfer.

With growing offering of smart phones, who can live without mobile data these days. Most of the time, mobile internet is often sold as a separate add-on which is bolted on existing postpaid voice plans. Some of the telco players have noticed the importance of data and had introduced single postpaid plans that comes with bundled data in the monthly commitment fees. This makes it affordable especially for those that need a postpaid plan with data and doesn’t really make much calls or SMS.
Today Maxis has introduced its new Value Plus Internet which comes bundled with voice calls, SMS and data. 3 plans are being offered – Value Plus Internet 30 (Supplement), Value Plus Internet 50 and Value Plus Internet 80.

For Value Plus Internet 50, you’ll get 250MB of data, 100 minutes of calls and 100 minutes of SMS for a monthly commitment of RM50. Additional usage is charged at RM0.30/MB, calls within Maxis at 12sen/min and calls to other network are charged at 20sen/min. SMS are charged at 5sen/sms within Maxis and 15/sms to all networks. For supplementary Value Plus Internet 30, you’ll get the same perks as Value Plus Internet 50 but with less Talk and Text minutes. However, they are bundling Free 900 minutes and 1500 SMS within your connected family lines.
For those that need more, there’s Value Plus Internet 80 which comes with 500MB data, 300 minutes of calls and 300 SMS. The rates for excess usage are similar but calls to other network are charged at a lower 18sen/min. While the bundled data option doesn’t seem a lot for heavy users, they are offering mobile data quota upgrades from hourly to weekly packages. The biggest option is RM25 for 7 days usage of 1.5GB.

Overall, these are great options for those looking for an all in one plan with low data usage. We would be expecting Maxis to offer mobile bundling on these new Value Plus Internet plans sometime soon. For those that require more data monthly, the standard Value Plus + Mobile Internet add-on would be a better option in the long run. Currently their biggest data add on is their 6GB option at RM98/month which is the closest thing to their former RM99 unlimited mobile internet with 5GB Fair usage.
