Maxis has finally updated their site with their iPad data plans. It is very much the same as the one leaked earlier on with both postpaid and prepaid offerings.
Just to recap, Maxis offers 3 plans – Entry 3.5GB, Super 6.0GB and Premium 15.0GB at RM70/monthly, RM90/monthly and RM200/monthly respectively, while only Entry 3.5GB for starters is available for prepaid. There are options for extra quota purchase for postpaid from 500MB to 1GB, while prepaid users have a wider choice of top ups with different quota and validity periods.
There’s no sign however of the iPad device themselves and Maxis states that “they do not currently sell iPad devices. This is for data plans only.” For those who are using or planning to get a WiFi only version of the iPad, Maxis is also offering their Huawei MiFi device (E5832) at RM380. According to their FAQ, the MiFi device add-on offer is only available during your iPad data plan subscription and you can’t get the device after walking away from the counter. It was also mentioned that Maxis iPad data plans offer speeds up to 7.2Mbps download and up to 1.4Mbps upload.
Visit http://www.maxis.com.my/ipad for more information and don’t forget to read the FAQ for postpaid and prepaid.
So where’s the iPad? If Maxis is not bringing them in, it might be sold at various Apple retails channels soon.

While Maxis will reveal its iPad data plans and device pricing tomorrow, Lowyat.net user stringfellow has released the data plans earlier than expected.
Looking at the photo taken off the brochure above, Maxis offers both postpaid and prepaid plans for the iPad. For postpaid, they offer 3.5GB, 6.0GB and 15.0GB monthly data plans at RM70, RM90 and RM200 respectively. It looks like there’s also an additional RM10 rebate if you’re an existing iValue or iData subscriber.
If the data quota of your subscribed plan is not enough, you can top up additional 500MB at RM8 which last for a day or RM18 for 500MB that’s valid for 30 days. Topping up additional 1GB will cost RM28 a month.
For prepaid users, they offer a range from as low as RM8/day for 500MB, all the way to the more expensive RM200 for 15GB a month.
Looking at the standalone postpaid plans, the cost per GB will be calculated as follows:
RM70 for 3.5GB=RM20/GB
RM90 for 6.0GB=RM15/GB
RM200 for 15GB=RM13.33/GB
When calculated cost per GB, the iPad data plans are cheaper than the normal Maxis plans but it is still costlier than U Mobile & DiGi’s offering.
Special thanks to Matt for the heads up!

UPDATE: Maxis iPad data plans leaked ahead of launch.
We’ve just received a short statement from Maxis confirming that it will offer dedicated data plans for iPad 3G. The plans will be revealed tomorrow.
Rumours started flying around last week that the local release of the world’s most popular gadget is just around the corner. There have also been some speculation on the pricing of the iPad 3G with the 16GB version rumoured to be priced at RM1,999, the 32GB at RM2,299 and the 64GB at RM2,599 — but this has yet to be confirmed by Maxis.
We’re looking forward to see how the dedicated iPad plans will compare to the iPhone plans. What we know so far from the release is that the plan are without contract, so the iPads are most definitely sold without subsidies. And considering that the press release states that Maxis will be releasing iPad 3G plans suggests to us that the iPads will be sold via Apple retail channels like Machines and EpiCentre, though we can’t confirm this but it looks very likely.
If you’re considering to purchase the iPad, it is worth noting that Apple is expected to make an announcement on the replacement for the iPad sometime in April 2011. We don’t know about you, but we’ll be waiting for that one.
Keep it locked to SoyaCincau.com for the latest update on the iPad plans from Maxis. The plans will be revealed tomorrow on www.maxis.com.my/iPad.
Hold your horses people, the iPad in question is not for sale. It is in fact the top prize for a movie contest that Hotlink is running. It’s no piddly, low-end 16GB either, Hotlink is giving away the almost top of the line 64GB version.
More details HERE.
Best of all, Maxis subscribers can have a whack at the iPad too (that means Maxis subs can also participate in the contest).
Good luck to you sir!
