We’re just a couple of days away (local time) to when the iPad 2 go on sale in the US. Ahead of that Apple has posted up quite a number of videos that takes users and prospective customers through some of the many things the new iPad can do with things like FaceTime, GarageBand, iMovie and AirPlay — just to name a few.

Apple Store Malaysia has confirmed that they are making refunds to those who purchased their original iPads online recently. We called their hotline to verify and they mentioned that they will pay back the price difference with the new slashed pricing. Last we checked, the difference for the iPad Wifi version is RM350 while the iPad 3G version is RM400.

To qualify, your purchase must not be made more than 14 days before the iPad 2 announcement on March 3rd (Malaysian time).  If you’re one of the online shoppers that bought recently, you can call 1800-80-6419 for more info.

UPDATE: Apple Store to refund recent online purchase of iPads in Malaysia.

Those who bought the original iPad just couple of days before the announcement of the iPad 2 must have feeling really miserable over the drop of prices. Over here in Malaysia, prices were slashed as much as RM400 for the 3G unit. In the US, Apple acknowledges such frustration and they are giving back US$100 refund for those who purchase 2 weeks before the iPad 2 was announced, which means purchases after 16th February.

It is reported that affected US buyers will see US$100 refunded back to their credit card while overseas customers will get £100 or €100 back as well. No ideas about the rest of us here in Malaysia but you might want to call the Apple Store at 1800-80-6419 to find out. Who knows they will also refund back RM350 or RM400 too.

After the announcement of iPad 2, Apple Store in Malaysia has slashed its iPad pricing to as low as RM1199 for the basic 16GB WiFi only model. The iPad 3G 16GB is even more affordable at only RM1599. That’s substantial savings of RM350 for the WiFi models and RM400 for the WiFi + 3G version.

As mentioned in the iPad 2 launch post, the new iPad 2 is more powerful, thinner and comes with 2 cameras but it isn’t much difference as we would have expected. So if the new iPad 2 features is something you can live without, the original iPad with its new reduced pricing and immediate stock availability looks like a good buy right now.

Google “iPad painting” and you’ll find numerous examples of people using the iPad as a canvas to express their art, and here are some fine recent examples created by artist Don Shank on how works with the unusual medium of “finger on glass” will very soon find its place on the walls of art galleries the world over.

For now, we’re just marveling at how something as inert as the iPad can be used to create such impressive abstracts with nothing more than just using the human finger. Splendid!

Apple Store is doing one-day shopping event for Chinese New Year where they are throwing extra discounts on a range of Apple devices. If you’ve been holding up your purchase for some extra savings, now is the time to consider. Do note that this is only happening today 14th January 2011.

The iPad now is even cheaper with RM131 discounts across all models. This makes the entry level 16GB WiFi version going for RM1418 from its usual RM1549 pricing. The highest end iPad 64GB with 3G goes for RM2468.

Apart from the iPad, you can get the latest iPod Touch from RM749 (RM81 off) for the 8GB version or the tiny iPod Nano 8GB for RM508 (RM41 off). There’s also additional discount of RM331 on MacBooks and iMacs.

DiGi is giving a boost for its broadband plans for tablet devices. On their website, it shows a picture of the iPad and the Galaxy Tab but neither of them are sold or bundled. While Maxis and Yes are pushing on iPad plans lately, DiGi obviously is not wanting to be left out. The iPad launched in Malaysia is only available for outright purchase, leaving consumers spoilt for choice when it comes to broadband choice. So this time around they had updated their DiGi Internet microsite to highlight the various options from prepaid to postpaid and also their MiFi device plan.

Just to recap, they offer prepaid plans as low as RM2/day with their RM2 Sure best promo but with download speeds limited at 384kbps. This offer is also extended to Happy Prepaid customers too. For postpaid, there’s an affordable RM38/day discovery day time only broadband with 3GB quota per month. If you need all time broadband, there’s the normal discovery plan at RM68/day with 3GB as well. For those with WiFi only devices, DiGi is offering a Huawei MiFi device on their higher explore plan with 16GB quota. DiGi postpaid speed is rated at an average of 700kbps for downloads.

Those who’ve just gotten an iPad will probably read this and weep. Reuters reports that Foxconn — the manufacturer of everything Apple — will start shipping the new iPad — until now only known as the iPad 2 — as early as the end of February 2011.

It is revealed that an initial shipment of 400,000 to 600,000 units are expected come February 2011.

The report, citing unnamed sources from a Taiwan-based components maker that supplies Foxconn with components, claims that Apple originally planned to start mass production in January 2011 but the plans were postponed since the device’s firmware was still being tested.

Although this is unconfirmed and is still technically classified as a rumour, the sources from which this juicy piece of information was revealed makes the February 2011 shipment of the new iPad an almost certainty, and with that you can expect to see Apple launching the device on April 2011 as speculated.

Looking at the way things have been going with the iPhone launches, we are expecting the new iPad to be launched across more markets on the same day as the device’s debut in the US. Although, we don’t think Malaysia will be on the list to receive the first wave of shipments but here’s hoping.
