After the announcement of the new “Resolutionary” iPad, Malaysia’s Apple store has already started slashing prices of the existing iPad 2. Now the cheapest entry model, the 16GB WiFi version is going for only RM1,199 after the RM300 reduction across all models including WiFi and 3G.
Such price reduction also occurred last year and Apple Store Malaysia had offered refunds of price difference for those that purchased within 14 days before the announcement. If you’re one of the unfortunate ones that just bought one recent, do stay tune for the refund announcement as it is likely they might be doing the same this year.
Here’s the price difference for comparison:
WiFi
16GB iPad 2RM1,499RM1,199
32GB iPad 2RM1,799RM1,499
64GB iPad 2RM2,099RM1,7993G
16GB iPad 2RM1,899RM1,599
32GB iPad 2RM2,199RM1,899
64GB iPad 2RM2,499RM2,199
To place an order, head over to the Apple Store. If you’ve been eyeing for a cheaper iPad, this is the time to do so but you better hurry before the old stocks run out.

While the iPad 2 price in Malaysia is among the cheapest globally, we wanted to find out whether it was the same story for its accessories. So we proceeded to compare the listed price of popular accessories such as the Smart Cover, Camera Connection Kit, iPad Dock and Digital Adapter.
From our findings above, the Leather Smart Cover in Malaysia is among the most expensive of the bunch at RM299. As comparison, getting it from Hong Kong costs RM209 while Singapore at RM237. Fortunately not all accessories are expensive in Malaysia as the iPad 2 dock and Camera Connection Kit is much more reasonable below RM100. Even our poly smart cover is similarly priced as Australia.
If you have a friend or relative who is flying back from the “cheaper accessory” countries above, you might want to consider buying your Leather Smart Cover from overseas instead. Again like the previous iPad 2 price comparison, prices above are listed from Apple Store online and it doesn’t include additional tax and possible rebates depending on country.

When the iPad 2 pricing was revealed in Malaysia, the pricing was the talk of the town with its starting price below RM1500 for its entry level 16GB WiFi model. This was a significant price reduction over the original iPad being RM50 cheaper for WiFi and RM100 cheaper for the 3G models. One of contributing factors would be the strengthening of Ringgit Malaysia against the dollar, which makes US goods supposedly cheaper.
So how are we are doing globally when most Asian countries start to offer the iPad 2 recently? The above is a simple comparison of its listed iPad 2 prices from Apple’s Store online. From this list, Malaysia is among the cheapest in the world for iPad 2 pricing. Do note however that these figures are taken directly from each respective website which is inclusive or exclusive of its local taxes required by its government. In the South East Asian region, Malaysians are getting it cheaper even compared to our Singaporean neighbour which they had to fork out about RM100 extra.

This just in from Maxis:
Maxis today announced it will offer dedicated data plans for iPad 2 with Wi-Fi + 3G in the coming weeks. iPad 2 is the next generation of Apple’s magical device for browsing the web, reading and sending email, enjoying photos, watching videos, listening to music, playing games, reading ebooks and much more. The amazing new iPad 2 improves on the original iPad by being thinner, lighter and faster, all while maintaining the same incredible 10 hours of battery life. For more information about iPad 2 please visit www.apple.com/ipad/.
Capitalising on the hype of the iPad 2 in Malaysia Maxis came out first to announce iPad 2 specific plans for the 3G version of the device. We’re not sure how much will the iPad 2 plans will differ from the earlier Maxis iPad 3G plan, but what we know is that Maxis will not offer a iPad 2 bundle.
So how many of you will be getting the iPad 3G and who will be getting just the WiFi only version, and why?
