DiGi offers RM200 rebate when you sign-up for iPhone 4 plan

Posted:  May 5, 2011   By: ccsoya   No comments

Special for mother’s day DiGi is giving back RM200 rebate when you sign-up for one of their iDiGi 88, iDiGi 138 or iDiGi 238 iPhone 4 plans.

With the rebate, the effective price for the 16GB iPhone 4 will be RM1,890 and the 32GB iPhone 4 will be RM2,290, both with 24 months DiGi contract. Only the black iPhone 4 is on offer. Despite the first to announce that it will make the white iPhone 4 available in Malaysia, customers are still not able to purchase the device from DiGi.

The offer is valid from today to May 16 and DiGi says the full rebate amount will be credited into your first or second month’s bill, depending on your billing cycle. Also DiGi says the RM200 credit rebate will not expire. So if you don’t use up the full amount this month, it will be carried forward to the next and the month after that until all the rebate amount is used up.

All this iPhone 4 price dropping is making us suspicious. Did Steve Jobs really clued us in on the iPhone 5 coming in June? We can only hope.

In any case, we’re asking DiGi this. What happened to your white iPhone 4 la?

Still not sure whether you want to go Maxis or DiGi with your iPhone 4? Here’s a calculator

Posted:  September 29, 2010   By: ccsoya   6 comments

It’s a week into the iPhone 4 launch in Malaysia and you’re Still undecided on which telco to go to to get your iPhone 4? Well, maybe this can help you. It’s a calculator that compares both the Maxis and DiGi iPhone 4 plans based on your mobile usage.

The creators of the iPhone 4 Maxis/DiGi calculator claims that it will “help you get a clearer idea of the actual cost” of owning an iPhone 4 based on your mobile usage. All you need to do is key in your estimated monthly mobile usage and the calculator will draw up “a chart for you to analyze and compare Maxis & DiGi’s iPhone plans“.

We can’t vouch for the accuracy of this calculator but it’s fun to play around with the numbers. And if you still haven decided on which telco to go with yet, well, you’ve waited this long so might as well wait a bit longer. There will promotions coming to sustain the iPhone 4 buzz from both telcos. So if you wait for the right moment, you might be able to get a very good deal in an iPhone 4. Maybe even an outright, no contract purchase. Who knows.

Here’s a link to the calculator, oddly enough, it’s a on a pet listing website of all places.

Thanks commenter John for the tip.

DiGi running low on iPhone 4 stocks?

Posted:  September 25, 2010   By: ccsoya   10 comments

(Update 25092010 2246hrs) Looks like DiGi made a booboo in its Twitter feed. It’s facebook wall says 4000 numbers we’re given out. If they achieved that in half a day, that’s an impressive number.

This tweet from DiGi doesn’t look encouraging if you’re looking to purchase the iPhone 4 from them. Just after lunch time on their first Saturday selling the iPhone 4, and it appears DiGi has ran out of stock for the day. Interestingly, the Quill 9 collection point closes at 2200hrs, so why stop giving out queue numbers so early?

The marketeers mantra is to never stop selling what the customer wants and you don’t need to be genius to know that the iPhone 4 is currently on the wish list of a lot of people so why has DiGi stopped giving out queue numbers at the half day point — only 400 numbers?

On the other side, Maxis’ iPhone 4 collection point at the Gardens is bustling and can comfortably handle over 400 customers. We were at the midnight launch and even at that point in time there was easily more than 400 customers, on a weekday mind you.

Could it be that DiGi is selling in more places and in more states than Maxis? 45 outlets from 24 September versus Maxis’ only iPhone 4 collection centre at the Gardens. Even when Maxis starts selling the iPhone nationwide on Monday 27 September, they would have only 27 outlets across Malaysia selling the iPhone 4 as opposed to DiGi’s 45.

More outlets could mean stocks of the iPhone 4 is spread thin but could that be the real reason DiGi is only giving our 400 queue numbers at Quill 9? We don’t think so.

We’re speculating that it is very possible that DiGi has less iPhone 4 stock than Maxis. Quill 9, for this weekend at least, is the iPhone 4 central for DiGi. Most of their iPhone 4 promotion materials point customers to go to Quill 9 to get the iPhone 4 from DiGi. Based on this, Quill 9 should have the most iPhone 4 stocks. In fact DiGi shouldn’t stop giving out numbers at Quill 9 but they did and that could only mean that stocks are low. Why else would they deny customers from getting the iPhone 4 on the spot?

We’re putting out this question to DiGi PR. Hope their reply is more forthcoming than @DiGi_Telco, we seem to have no luck with the official Twitter account.

iPhone 4 in Malaysia: DiGi vs Maxis plans

Posted:  September 24, 2010   By: soyacincau   82 comments

UPDATE: Added comparison for iPhone 4 32GB and 16GB for both 12/24 months contract. Please note that all DiGi’s iDiGi plans are tied to 24 months contract. The 12 months table below is for comparison only.

UPDATE 2: The iPhone 4S is launching in Malaysia on 16th December. Check out the iPhone 4S Plans from DiGi and Maxis.

UPDATE 3: iPhone 4S DiGi vs Maxis vs Celcom plans compared.

The iPhone 4 is officially available in Malaysia with both DiGi and Maxis starting from today. Both telcos are having different ways of bundling this anticipated device which could be rather challenging to compare. With the plans revealed, the biggest question now is which one is cheaper and comes with greater value?

To find out, we compared Maxis’s iValue plans with DiGi’s iDiGi plans as both had rather similar style of bundling talk time, sms, mms and data. iData is not included in the comparison as there isn’t a DiGi equivalent, plus the device is more expensive compared to its iValue offering. Just like our previous iDiGi vs iValue comparison, we list out all the bundled features for side by side comparison.

No waiting for iPhone says DiGi D’Chat

Posted:  April 2, 2010   By: oyasc   No comments

Those who’ve pre-ordered their iPhone from DiGi will be able to collect it this Saturday. One of the major complaints that we’ve been hearing is that it takes ages for anyone to get a 3GS from Maxis. We sent an email to the Corp Comms people of Maxis to find out if this is true or not but they didn’t respond, so we’ll just have to rely on the word on the street.

We don’t know if long waiting periods are still an issue at Maxis but what we do know is that if you order your iPhone from DiGi. You don’t have to wait…well..not that long at least.

We had a quick chat with one of DiGi’s customer service people via D’Chat and we were told that pre-order units that are not collected will go to the next guy that wants it and is willing to pay for it. Which means any dude who walks up to the DiGi counter in One Utama (we believe) should be able to get an iPhone there and then without pre-booking.

We were also told via D’Chat that DiGi has ordered quite a number of the iPhones to meet demand. D’Chat also said that if you order your iPhone from DiGi and they didn’t have stock, you only have to wait for around seven days to get one as opposed to 30 to 40 days or longer with Maxis.

So, if you’re in a hurry to get an iPhone, you know where to go to and let us know if this is indeed true.

Maxis takes RM200 off your iPhone purchase

Posted:  April 2, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

It’s no biggie but hey, its something.

To celebrate iPhone 3GS first anniversary coming to Malaysia, Maxis is taking RM200 off all iPhone prices if you signup with their iValue plan.

Offer is valid all the way to April 20. It’s not really much of an iDiGi counter if you ask us, really.

iDiGi: DiGi’s iPhone Plans Revealed

Posted:  March 31, 2010   By: oyasc   No comments

Make no mistake, this is not a botched up pseudo-leak like yesterday.

DiGi has revealed its iPhone plans dubbed the iDiGi plans today. Looks like there’s really not much difference from the FA’s the released yesterday and we’ll say it again – the plans are better than what Maxis has to offer.

We’ll go into the details of the plans and compare the two with more depth in the next couple of days but on the skin, the iDiGi plans look simple, packed with value and gives good flexibility with the affordable data roaming to selected countries.

For people who travel a lot, we know that you know that data roaming charges can really give you a heart attack.
