Pictured here is the HTC Desire 2 (unconfirmed)
The Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Desire and the HTC Wildfire — what do all these devices have in common? Well, all of them are aching for a refresh. In short, the time has come for the lot to be replaced.
Both HTC and Samsung didn’t have much to show at CES this year so all eyes are on the Mobile World Congress happening next week. What do they have in store? Samsung will be unpacking the new Galaxy S and HTC is expected to release a slew of new and updated devices to make up for the deficit at CES.
Ahead of the event, leaked specs for the new Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Desire and the HTC Wildfire have surfaced and they are awaiting your reading pleasure right after the jump.

Mobile World Congress is the talk of the town this two weeks and one device manufacturer has a lot to make up for considering that it really had nothing much to show at CES — the other major gadget event — earlier this year.
So what does HTC has up its sleeve for MWC? The people at Android and Me believe that they have enough info to predict some of the devices that HTC will unveil next week. And here they are:
Pyramid is HTC’s first dual-core handset that will feature Qualcomm’s third generation Snapdragon. The device is rumored to be headed to T-Mobile, but we suspect you will see it on a number of carriers. The device features a 4.3 inch qHD display and will support the latest 4G networks. Not much else is known about the remaining device specs.
Flyer is the codename give to HTC’s Galaxy Tab competitor. This Android tablet will feature a 7 inch display and is rumored to ship with Android 2.3,a single-core 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, and have dual-cameras. The Flyer has made many trips to the rumor mill so we believe it is real and coming soon, but there is always the chance that HTC upgrades the specs at the last minute.
Verdi is HTC’s “big thing” that no one is talking about. This device is a 10-inch Honeycomb tablet meant to compete with the Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. Little is known beyond its codename and display size, but we will have to assume that HTC stuck with a dual-core Snapdragon and included all the normal bells and whistles.
Not forgetting the recently teased Wildfire 2, the new HTC phones are definitely something to look forward to but the rumour 7-inch and 10-inch tablets are the one’s we’re particularly excited about, especially the 10-inch Verdi that is believed to be running Honeycomb.
Just six more days to MWC! In the meantime, if you want to get the latest from HTC head on over to their Facebook fan page.

Right after the jump we have for you a promotional video released by HTC to drum up some buzz ahead of the upcoming Mobile World Congress. While the many other phones featured in the 30 second video are familiar to us, one stands out right at the very beginning.
We’re not sure what to make of it but it sure does look similar to the HTC Wildfire but with enough differences on it to make us notice its existence. In this case, the Wildfire lookalike doesn’t have an optical trackpad. Take a look at the video, you’ll see it just after the 00:04 mark.

Good news for HTC Wildfire users! The Android 2.2 Froyo update is finally available for South East Asian region via Over The Air (OTA) update. This comes just several days after it was made available in Europe. You should be getting a software update notification soon or if you can’t wait, you can download it immediately at [ Settings > About Phone > System Software Updates ].
The latest firmware carries the number 2.24.707.1 and if you don’t have a data plan, we strongly suggest you download via WiFi. As per any software upgrade, it is advisable to backup your data first before proceeding. Support details are now showing at HTC SEA support page.
Thanks to @whitegoh for updating us via twitter and Syahmi at the comments!

Last week we saw HTC releasing the long awaited Froyo update for the HTC Legend and HTC Aria. The next question is when is the HTC Wildfire‘s turn? We’ve been tipped that HTC Wildfire users in Europe are starting to get their Froyo update via OTA right now. This means that Malaysian users could possibly getting theirs in the next couple of days if it follows the same trend as the HTC Legend.
In the case of the Legend, the Froyo update for South East Asia (SEA) users was pushed about a week after Europe. Watch out for updates on HTC SEA support page or try checking manually in the next few days at [ Settings > About Phone > System Software Updates ].
Special thanks to Alvin for the heads up!

No matter how you look at it, you can’t fight the Android invasion. Google’s underdog mobile OS is taking a big chunk of the smartphone market which has long been dominated by iPhone, BlackBerry and devices running on Symbian.
Most of these smartphones however are too expensive for mass market with price tags of over RM2000. Not a lot of people are able to fork so much money, but many want to get their hands on a device that at the very least, can deliver a good browing and social media experience. This opened up a market for entry-level smartphones that right now has been dominated by Nokia which admitedly, have been doing a good job at offering competent semi-smartphones at bargain basement prices powered by Symbian.
But the semi-smart Symbian phones that Nokia are churning out doesn’t really cut the mustard for us. The lack of applications is a major disadvantage. So we turn to Android, the open source mobile OS that has so much potential to be great but again we’re limited to high-end devices at the moment. Is there such thing as an affordable Android phone that’s cheerfully cheap yet delivers the functionality of the higher end Androids?
With an attractive pricing and a decent hardware, the HTC Wildfire certainly looks like a strong candidate to play that role, but does it deliver the goods? Read on to find out.
Maxis is once again leading the Android device pack with its latest addition, the HTC Wildfire. You can check out our review on the HTC Desire.
At launch about a month a got the Wildfire was sold outright with no plans from any telco but we were told by HTC PR that Maxis is will be offering a bundling package very soon, and here it is.
We predicted that with a 12 months package the Wildfire will cost around RM700 and it looks like we were spot on with that one. With a 12 month contract on Maxis, the HTC Wildfire can be your for RM699. You can go as low as RM549 with the Wildfire if you’re willing to put up with a 24 months contact on Maxis.
There’s currently a promotion on HTC devices with Maxis at the moment. Running from 13 to 17 August, with every purchase of the Wildfire you’ll get a free car kit worth RM200 and with every purchase of the HTC Desire you get a free casing worth RM80. Only valid for purchases made at the Maxis KLCC roadshow.
Speaking of 24 months, Maxis has included this option to subscribe for 18 months and 24 months. This is a new bundling across all the Android devices in Maxis’ stables. Our favourite Samsung Galaxy S is a mouth watering RM1,499 pm 24 months contract and the pretty good HTC Desire is RM1,349 on 24 months. You can check out the new pricing for the device here but if you’re too lazy, check out the breakdown below.
Interestingly, Maxis has dropped some of the Android devices from its lineup, including the Motorola Milestone, HTC Legend, the standard Samsung Galaxy and the LG GW620.

If you’re heading down to PC Fair and are looking to buy a new handphone this Sunday, the HTC booth is probably worth a look. Click on the main picture to see some of the deals HTC is having on their phones specially for the PC Fair.
We’re a bit confused on the Desire and Legend pricing as the price stated on the promo poster is the normal retail price. So we’re not sure what HTC means by the “3 Days Promo Price Only” tag on both phones. Though reports are saying that you get a whole load of free gifts if you purchase the Desire or Legend, this include an 8GB MicroSD, a Bluetooth headset, car charger and a screen protector, but we can’t confirm this. Guess you’ll really have to go there and find out.
If you’re wondering why there’s no offer for the HTC Wildfire, HTC says that the device is out of stock. We’re not surprised, for the money it’s a good device. But it’s odd that HTC didn’t stock up on the Wildfire in preperation for the PC Fair. That’s just poor logistics in our minds.
Anyway, if you have on ground intel on what deals are being offered by HTC and the other handphone brands at PC Fair, do comment us ya. Thanks!

(Update 16082010 1456hrs) Our review of the HTC Wildfire is up. Check it out here.
We’ve just received a unit of the HTC Wildfire. At RM1,199 and running and Android 2.1, we’re pretty keen to see how this little device performs.
Considered as an entry-level Android device, there’s bound to be some compromises, but will those compromises hamper the overall experience of the Wildfire? Or will the Wildfire provide the perfect balance between cost, quality and performance? You’ll find out in the review.
Also, we’ll compare the Wildfire with its close relative, the HTC Legend to see how it stacks up against one of our favourite HTC Android device at the moment.
It’s going to be an interesting review, so keep it locked on to SoyaCincau.com.
In meantime, if you have any questions or if there’s anything you’d like to know about the Wildfire, post a comment, we’ll be sure to answer them.
