HTC HD7 compared with EVO 4G and Droid X

Posted:  October 12, 2010   By: soyacincau   No comments

Android’s 4.3″ devices like the EVO 4G and Moto Droid X now have a Windows Phone 7 competitor, the HTC HD7. Like the majority of the Windows Phone 7 devices, they often share similar specs and design as its Android counterparts.

Android Central has a hands-on comparison of the new HD7 with the EVO 4G. There are obvious similiarities between the 2 especially the camera, kickstand and LED flash lights at the back. A similiar sized Motorola Droid X is compared side by side as well too.

Detail side by side comparison shots here.

Sprint compares 4G WiMAX phones – EVO 4G and Epic 4G

Posted:  August 12, 2010   By: soyacincau   No comments

Sprint released a video podcast to compare the features of the HTC EVO 4G and the Samsung Epic 4G, the only 2 4G WiMAX enabled android phones at the moment.

First on the comparison is the screen which Epic 4G offers the Super AMOLED screen used on the Galaxy S. Also compared is Epic’s slider QWERTY keyboard and its DLNA capabilities that allows you to stream multimedia content wirelessly to a DLNA supported TV. Meanwhile the EVO uses a HDMI cable for sharing onto the big screen. Don’t expect detailed video comparison as it is merely compares on sales brochure details.

The Sprint Samsung Epic 4G will go on pre-sale tomorrow, 13th August at $249.99 with a 2 year contract and $100 rebate and will be officially made available on 31st August.

HTC EVO 4G gets Froyo, Moto Droid/Milestone next week

Posted:  July 31, 2010   By: soyacincau   No comments

While HTC users in China get to enjoy Android 2.2 Froyo on the current HTC Android devices, HTC EVO 4G users have officially gotten their Froyo update in the US. This makes it the 2nd phone to get Froyo after Nexus One over that side of the world.

The new update gave the EVO 4G similar Android 2.2 features plus a few stuff from HTC, such as a Flashlight app, updates on FM Radio, MMS and Photo Gallery apps. Android Central has a detailed list of the new changes in their EVO 4G Froyo post. As mentioned earlier, we should be expecting HTC’s Froyo update for the rest of us anytime soon.

For those who are having Android’s best selling Motorola Droid/Milestone,
an update is expected to come next week. Verizon, the official carrier for the Moto Droid in the US has updated its support page in time for the upgrade.

We should be expecting more announcements of Froyo roll out in the next couple of days. Samsung too has announced that the Galaxy S is getting Froyo by September. So far, the only quiet one is Sony Ericsson which seems to be stuck with Android 1.6 until today.

This is it folks! Q3 is showtime for Froyo.

Man needs money to send an Android phone into space

Posted:  July 22, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

Inspired by the iPhone 4 tethered to a weather balloon video, self-confessed geek Danny Piers wants to send a smartphone into space and he needs funds.

Danny will tie a HTC EVO 4G to a weather balloon and set it free to achieve its maximum altitude. On its way up, the HTC EVO will be programed to take video and pictures whilst at the same time send back location information so that followers can track its location.

Once the balloon reaches its maximum altitude, it will burst and the HTC EVO will parachute to earth safely. The data gathered from the phone will be shared with the world.

Here’s what I’ll be using the funds for:

  • Weather ballons, not sure how many at this point
  • Recovery parachutes
  • Helium (surprisingly expensive)
  • Miscellaneous materials
  • Inevitable catastrophes, specifically lost and broken phones

Piers wants to share the application with other Android users so they to can send devices into space with weather balloons.

Sounds mildly interesting but we can think off other cooler things to do with your Android device, like here and here.

Head on over to after the jump to see a video of Danny Piers pitching his project for your funds.

HTC Ace could be the next Desire

Posted:  July 20, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

We briefly wrote about the HTC Ace, the codename for the new a new device the company is purportedly working on.

Previously we got wind that the Ace would be a HTC EVO 4G sans WiMAX but this is not confirmed and there are two sides of the story. Another source claims that the HTC Ace is actually a Desire dressed in Droid Incredible clothes destined for European markets.

We’re more inclined to think that the upcoming Ace will be more like the EVO 4G then the Incredible, but it won’t be the EVO 4G exactly.

Why are we saying this? Because we’re seeing postings about an apparent leak of a new flagship device from HTC and that device is condenamed Ace. The “leaked” specs are very similar to what the EVO 4G is sporting right now. That means the Ace will very likely be packing a 4.3in WVGA screen, a 1GHz processor of the Snapdragon kind and an 8MP camera with 720p video.

In addition, the leak revealed that the new HTC flagship device will carry 4GB on board memory and run on FroYo.

In terms of construction, the leak mention that the new device will be constructed from a single billet of Aluminium simillar to the one on the HTC Legend. Launch date is slated in October.

Unfortunately the source has already brought down the post but we have a feeling that there’s some truth in the specs. So, could the HTC Ace actually be a Desire 2?

We can’t confirm at this moment in time but we’ll keep a close watch on developments to give you the latest.

HTC EVO 4G might go out of US but looses WiMAX

Posted:  July 12, 2010   By: ccsoya   3 comments

With its 4.3-inch screen, 1GHz processor, 8MP main camera and 1.3MP secondary forward facing camera, HDMI out and a hefty 512MB RAM along with WiMAX capabilities, the HTC EVO 4G is arguably the world’s most advanced Android powered smartphone.

Unfortunately, it’s only available at the US at the moment.

But that could all change based on the current speculation doing its rounds in the Android world.

It seems that HTC’s director of global PR, Eric Lin, has dropped some clues indicating that the HTC EVO 4G could be destined for markets outside the US sans WiMAX and is codenamed Ace.

But, as always, there’s two sides of the story. While one source said that the HTC codename Ace is indeed HTC EVO without WiMAX, another source speculates that the Ace is nothing more than Droid Incredible repackaged for the international markets.

And as you may have already know, the Droid Incredible is essentially a HTC Desire, which is, already available here anyway.

So the case for the EVO is looking promising but both sources can’t confirm which device will eventually become the currently being developed HTC Ace.

The good news is, we will all apparently find out in October.

So stay tuned to SoyaCincau.com for the latest.

Anti-iPhone video gets dude fired

Posted:  July 4, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

A dude form Best Buy in the US created this video about a customer that just wants to get an iPhone 4 because everybody else wants one. The video is very vulgar and the employers of the creator decided that he’s not the kind of person they want working in Best Buy anymore, so now apparently they are trying to fire him.

We don’t know if it’s out of frustration or he’s just trying be funny or if he’s just plain mean of if it’s all of the reasons combined but we don’t think he deserved what he got for producing this video. Plus whatever happened to freedom of speech? If we didn’t read reports that the video was made by a dude who works in Best Buy, we wouldn’t even make the connection. He should be able to keep his job.

In any case the video is a viral success, racking in close to a whopping 2.5 million views in less than 2 weeks. CGC FTW!

Speaking of the iPhone 4, what’s your take on the device? With all its antenna issue and what not, will you get it once it gets here? For us, the jury is still out. The Samsung Galaxy S with Android and Swype is a very enticing proposition for would be smartphone buyers.

Head on after the jump the see the video plus a bonus response video to the original.

HTC EVO 4G now in white, only from Best Buy

Posted:  June 19, 2010   By: soyacincau   1 comment

New in the ‘White’ device bandwagon is the new HTC EVO 4G. According to Engadget the white EVO 4G is exclusive to Best Buy for now and it is not available at Sprint stores yet.

Pre-orders start today with a $50 deposit while the official release is on 11th July 2010. The price of the white HTC EVO 4G is at $199 over a 2 year contract.

While Blackberry 9700 & the new iPhone 4 offers full ‘White’ both front and back, the HTC Evo 4G only features a change of its back plate like the current iPhone 3Gs. You could probably make yours “white” by changing its back plate from 3rd party sources.

HTC EVO 4G tortured with razor, keys & screws

Posted:  June 12, 2010   By: soyacincau   No comments

After seeing iPhones and iPads being broken, beaten and blended, how about an Android for a change? A forummer Roman G from Android Forums puts his HTC EVO 4G to the test with various torture test on its large screen.

According to Roman, he was going to return the device to Sprint for replacement as there’s a defect with his unit. Towards the end of the video, you’ll see that the screen pops up when pressure is applied on the sides. Since he’s getting a replacement, he figured why not conduct such “experiment” before it goes back to Sprint.

Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G WiMAX speed test video

Posted:  May 13, 2010   By: soyacincau   1 comment

The main purpose of having a 4G Mobile device is all about high speed internet on the go. Engadget has some videos testing out the Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G‘s WiMAX capabilities and they managed to get impressive speedtest results of 4Mbps downlink and 1Mbps uplink.

Of course this may not represent actual situation as the test was conducted at Sprint’s own office, but it shows its true potential in optimum environment. We envy the results and if only we can get such speeds with our local WiMAX players.
