HTC Desire, Desire HD, Desire Z to get Gingerbread update

Slashgear has reported that HTC’s current and older line up of Desires will be receiving Android 2.3 Gingerbread update which includes the original HTC Desire, HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z. The news was confirmed by a HTC spokesperson and it will be rolled out in Q2 this year. Another model, Incredible S which was launched recently with Froyo is also receiving the Gingerbread update about the same time.

Earlier on, there was teaser from Three UK that HTC Desire but this latest updates confirms it further. So far HTC seems to be the most progressive Android manufacturer in terms of software updates as they were among the first to announce Froyo updates for its older models and now the Gingerbread. Hopefully the rest of the Android players will follow suit.

BlackBerries are reduced with a slight reduction on its older Curve 8520 and Bold 9700 but the Torch is further reduced to RM1288 from its previous 24 months contract price of RM1399.

On the Windows Phone 7 line up, the HTC 7 Mozart is now offered at a much lower RM1188 (usual RM1499) while the larger HTC HD7 is offered at RM1388 (usual RM1699).

UPDATE: Maxis clarifies via twitter that HTC Desire Z gets 2 year warranty.

As mentioned earlier, the HTC Desire Z is now available on Maxis starting from today. The Desire Z which was announced together with the Desire HD retails at RM2299.

On the bundled pricing, the Desire Z goes for RM1649 over 12 months, RM1599 over 18 months or RM1499 over 24 months contract of a bolt-on data plan on top of Value Plus postpaid plan. The Desire Z is covered with a 2 year warranty as confirmed by Maxis via twitter. Interestingly the Desire Z comes only with a 12 months warranty which is less compared to the older HTC Desire and HTC Wildfire that had 24 months warranty.

Also making an apperance is the rugged Motorola Defy which was just launched in Malaysia 2 days ago. In case you missed it, do read our Motorola Defy first impressions. On contract, it goes RM1299 over 12 months, RM1149 over 18 months and RM999 over 24 months duration.

At the same time, Maxis also has started bundling entry level Androids which includes the Huawei Ideos U8150 and Samsung Galaxy 3. HTC Desire Z from Maxis available nationwide this FRIDAY

Posted:  December 15, 2010   By: ccsoya   1 comment

It’s official, the HTC Desire Z will be available from Maxis nationwide starting this Friday, December 17, 2010. Maxis made the announcement via its Facebook account in a reply to customers when the telco will make the device available in stores.

Maxis
@To All: Hi, We are pleased to inform you that the HTC Desire Z will be available nationwide at all Maxis centres this Friday, 17 December 2010. Please ensure that you visit the centres early to avoid disappointment. Thank you.

Interestingly Maxis bucks the trend by forgoing the redundant registration of interest phase this time around and it looks like they are expecting the device to fly off the shelves on sale day. We are incline to agree.

No details on pricing an plans as of yet but you’ll know we’ll have the latest updates right here at SoyaCincau.com so keep it locked on!

Thanks anonymous tipster! You stay awesome.

The HTC Desire HD & Desire Z has finally launched in Malaysia with both carrying the price tag of RM2299. The Desire Z will be exclusive on Maxis while the Desire HD is exclusive on DiGi.

Earlier this morning, DiGi had commenced its registration of interest for the Desire HD ahead the launch as we’ve predicted earlier on. It was mentioned that the Desire HD will be available on HTC and DiGi centres next month.

HTC Desire HD and Desire Z Malaysia launch this Thursday

Posted:  November 23, 2010   By: soyacincau   11 comments

HTC Malaysia has announced that the anticipated HTC Desire HD and Desire Z will be launched this Thursday 25th November. There’s no pricing mentioned but we have a feeling that it should be priced around the original HTC Desire, about RM2300 for the Z and RM2600 for the HD.

We don’t expect to see any bundling by any telco at the moment especially when there isn’t any registration of interest activity. However, we won’t be surprised if DiGi came to the party with some bundling offers. We’ll find out more on launch day.

To get to know these 2 devices better, check our device overview post on the HTC Desire HD and Desire Z.

Three smartphones on a grill. See what happens next

Posted:  November 13, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

This device destruction/torture thing doesn’t get old does it?

Recently, we just saw a Galaxy Tab being pelted with a BB gun and everyone remembers the iPhone 4 in a blender viral video.

Now comes another video around the same theme but with a different set of suspects. We have here a iPhone 4, a HTC Desire Z and a HTC Surround being tortured to the max on a grill.

The original intention of the video was to create a viral campaign to promote the EZGrill disposable grill. We’re not sure if it worked but the phones would’ve found a loving home with us instead being grilled to oblivion.

Check out the three phones being grilled and also who survived the longest along with links to the many other device torture tests we have in our archives right after the jump.

HTCSense.com remote phone management site is now live

Posted:  October 7, 2010   By: soyacincau   1 comment

HTC’s online remote management tool, HTCSense.com is now online. Initially it wasn’t accessible during the unveiling of HTC Desire Z and Desire HD. HTC Sense allows you to control your device remotely including diverting calls and even access your messages via the web. In event you lose your phone, it even allows you to track and to further extent of wiping your phone clean of your confidential data.

Good news is that it is available in Malaysia as shown in the list of countries. Bad news is that it only works for HTC Desire Z and HD. So those using the HTC Desire or even the recently launched Aria are currently left out. Hopefully HTC will expand the supported device with newer firmware updates for its current android HTC lineup.

VIDEO: HTC Desire Z – A closer look

Posted:  September 19, 2010   By: soyacincau   2 comments

Earlier on, you’ve seen a showcase video from HTC on the Desire HD. Next up is the Desire Z that comes with a unique QWERTY pop-out keyboard.

HTC has made several QWERTY devices in the past but somehow they didn’t offered one for Android after the original HTC Dream/G1. Although it is a matter of personal preference, a QWERTY keyboard is more appealing for power users that use them a lot for work. That could be one of factors why Motorola Droid is a top selling model. Even its replacement Droid 2 hasn’t changed much from its original form. Not to stand there and watch its rivals enjoy all the fun, HTC has joined in with the Desire Z.

Just a recap on the specs, it comes with the latest 800MHz Qualcomm 7230 processor, 1.5GB of internal storage and 512MB of RAM with expandable microSD slot. It’s also capable of recording 720p HD videos with its 5MP camera. The Desire Z now has with a dedicated camera button, which has been omitted on several HTC Android devices before.

The main design highlight would be the keyboard as it employs a “pop-hinge” mechanism which pops upwards and folds down in a Z motion, hence the Z in the name. On the QWERTY keyboard, HTC has also added 2 shortcut keys at the bottom right which is user customisable. Also not forgetting that it runs on Android 2.2 Froyo and the latest version of HTC Sense that’s vastly improved with new features. We seriously can’t wait for this to arrive in Malaysia.

Check out the video after the jump.

HTC Desire Z and Desire HD coming to Malaysia

Posted:  September 16, 2010   By: ccsoya   7 comments

We’ve got the official word from HTC PR. HTC’s dynamic Android duo, the Desire Z and Desire HD will be coming to Malaysia.

Though HTC can’t confirm a date but we could be looking at a late October or early November launch. And sorry, no price details have been given at the moment.

So let’s see, iPhone 4, BlackBerry Torch, Nokia N8 all coming around the same time — that is late September, early October — and now we have these two powerhouse devices coming roughly a month after that. The smartphone buyer will have a lot to think about when making the purchase a new device. Should you grab on to the early releases or should you wait for all the devices from all the manufacturers to be released?

We’ve said it once, we’ll say it again. The final quarter of 2010 will be a very exciting time indeed.
