Slashgear has reported that HTC’s current and older line up of Desires will be receiving Android 2.3 Gingerbread update which includes the original HTC Desire, HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z. The news was confirmed by a HTC spokesperson and it will be rolled out in Q2 this year. Another model, Incredible S which was launched recently with Froyo is also receiving the Gingerbread update about the same time.
Earlier on, there was teaser from Three UK that HTC Desire but this latest updates confirms it further. So far HTC seems to be the most progressive Android manufacturer in terms of software updates as they were among the first to announce Froyo updates for its older models and now the Gingerbread. Hopefully the rest of the Android players will follow suit.

DiGi is giving away a white HTC Desire worth RM1999 hourly from 12:01AM of 21st February till 2.00AM of 23rd February for eligible prepaid customers that top up a minimum of RM50 and above. As an instant reward, they are also giving free 15 minutes worth of DiGi to DiGi calls with the RM50 top up.
How it works, according to the T&C is that DiGi will pick the 1000th subscriber that top up for each hour. After that, DiGi will call the shortlisted subscriber between 1st – 31st March 2011. If the person fail to answer 3 calls, he/she will be disqualified. So looks like those who are eying for the prize must stick to their phones like glue during the month of March.
That’s not all, you would also require to answer a question which if you fail to do so, the opportunity will then passed to the 1001th user. There will be a total of 72 winners and only 1 subscriber is eligible throughout the contest. There’s also an exclusion however that Happy, Prepaid Internet and DiGi Prepaid Easy customers are not eligible for this contest.

The new Build number after the update will be 2.13.707.1. Update: Android 2.2 and HTC Sense update. Note:Please back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. While this is fine and dandy, we’re wondering when will the other Froyo worthy devices in HTC’s line-up — namely the Legend and Aria — be getting their updates.

If you’re heading down to PC Fair and are looking to buy a new handphone this Sunday, the HTC booth is probably worth a look. Click on the main picture to see some of the deals HTC is having on their phones specially for the PC Fair.
We’re a bit confused on the Desire and Legend pricing as the price stated on the promo poster is the normal retail price. So we’re not sure what HTC means by the “3 Days Promo Price Only” tag on both phones. Though reports are saying that you get a whole load of free gifts if you purchase the Desire or Legend, this include an 8GB MicroSD, a Bluetooth headset, car charger and a screen protector, but we can’t confirm this. Guess you’ll really have to go there and find out.
If you’re wondering why there’s no offer for the HTC Wildfire, HTC says that the device is out of stock. We’re not surprised, for the money it’s a good device. But it’s odd that HTC didn’t stock up on the Wildfire in preperation for the PC Fair. That’s just poor logistics in our minds.
Anyway, if you have on ground intel on what deals are being offered by HTC and the other handphone brands at PC Fair, do comment us ya. Thanks!

The Malaysian Android invation is not letting up. The latest Android device to enter the market will be the HTC Desire and its happening this Thursday, May 27. We’ll be there to get you the latest so stay tune.
No word on pricing yet but we’ll do some educated guessing here. The Desire’s close relative the Google Nexus One is going for about SG$800 or around RM1900 official price. Grey imports in Malaysia are around RM2500. The HTC Legend retails for about RM2000.
Looking at this, its a safe bet that the desire will be priced above RM2000 probably very close to iPhone 3GS 16GB teritory. We expect to see subsidised plans for the phone at launch as well. More details on launch day.
By the way, Maxis is looking for 10 reviewers for the HTC Desire and is running a survey to find them. You can take the survey here.
