US gets super Galaxy Nexus with LTE and 1.5Ghz dual-core processor

Posted:  January 6, 2012   By: ccsoya   5 comments

First, the UK gets the white version, now the US gets a super Galaxy Nexus with LTE connectivity and an ultra-fast 1.5GHz dual-core processor while we’re stuck with just a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor and HSPA+ connectivity. Ini tidak adil!

But apart from the faster processor and LTE connectivity, all the other specs in the pimped up Galaxy Nexus remains the same as the standard version.

Now, why can’t Yes offer a WiMAX version with uprated specs? Or perhaps when DiGi’s LTE network comes online, we will be able to get uprated devices like this One can certainly hope.

Yes and DiGi, you know what to do.

Galaxy Nexus in white makes an appearance. Not sure when coming to Malaysia

Posted:  January 5, 2012   By: ccsoya   No comments

Everyone’s into white devices nowadays. We see more white iPhones 4 and iPads 2 than the black ones. When the white Galaxy Note was introduced, many of you commented that it looked better than the dark blue one. Seeing that there are many pure white fans out there, Google and Samsung are making available the Galaxy Nexus in white as well.

The white Galaxy Nexus will be available in the UK this February. There’s no word on when the device will come to Malaysia. While it’s possible for Samsung to release both the black and white versions of the Galaxy Nexus in Malaysia come January 13, we don’t think this will happen.

But we reckon the white Galaxy Nexus will still come to Malaysia, it’s just a question of when. By the looks of things, it’ll probably be a couple of months after the black version officially launched here.

So which one will it be? Galaxy Nexus in white or black? Personally, we’d take the black version.

With Christmas just a few days away, here’s a video from the Google Team giving some festive cheer. It has scenes from the Google campus with Android devices in action. Obviously the Galaxy Nexus is one of the stars in the video. If you didn’t notice, Youtube has a snow flakes effect button on the toolbar. Hit the button to enjoy animated flakes with your video.

Earlier this week, Apple has released an iPhone 4S ad starring Santa Claus.

They created a sensation with the amazing unboxing of the Nexus One, then they took it a step further by taking over the whole YouTube page during the unboxing of the Nexus S and now, the Nexus Ninjas are back with another edition of Nexus unboxing.

This time the Ninjas go into 8-bit mode complete with a playable game where you play the Ninja and battle enemies using “Nexus Power” on your quest to ultimately unbox the Galaxy Nexus. The first three levels are playable online while the rest comes in a form of an Android app called Clash of The Nexus Ninjas available for download here.

There are more Nexus Ninjas videos and a couple of the screen caps for you after the jump. Have fun.

Christmas comes early for Google employees with special edition Galaxy Nexus

Posted:  December 19, 2011   By: ccsoya   2 comments

Google employees are being treated to an early Christmas this year with each getting the very desirable Galaxy Nexus as a yuletide treat.

As if the Galaxy Nexus is not special enough, the ones that are being handed out to Google employees feature a special back plate design sporting a range of icons as used in the Android OS.

Google offices in London and Zurich are already abuzz with employees standing in line to collect their special Christmas edition Galaxy Nexuses. There’s no official word from Google if this giveaway is for its employees worldwide but there’s no reason to think otherwise. In any case, we’re certainly green with envy.

The Galaxy Nexus is expected to arrive to Malaysia next year in time for the 2012 Chinese New Year (before January 23). If you can’t wait that long to get your hands on one, we found a few grey imported units selling for around RM2,400

The Top 10 gadgets of 2011

Posted:  December 19, 2011   By: ccsoya   13 comments

We’ve once again reached that time of the year where we look back at the past eleven months to see what a year it has been. For us at SoyaCincau.com, 2011 has been a year filled with amazing gadgets and innovation. The mobile scene has progressed so much in such a short time span that you can’t believe how much the game has moved on since a year ago.

In Malaysia, we see more interest from prominent brands like Samsung, Sony Ericsson, HTC, Nokia and BlackBerry as they identify Malaysia as a key market. As a result we see more devices being launched in Malaysia much earlier than – or at the very least at the same time as – other countries. We see this trend continuing for 2012 as Android gains traction and makes inroads in the minds and hearts of Malaysian consumers outside of urban areas and the demand for smartphones increases and prices drop.

Microsoft’s Windows Phone has got to be, in our opinion, one of the biggest lost opportunities for 2011. As a mobile platform, Windows Phone has loads of potential but the lack of a concerted and synchronised market awareness effort from Microsoft and manufacturers has resulted in the platform being an unknown in the country. As a result of that, retailers have seen very little interest in Windows Phone devices.

Having said that, Nokia is set to launch its range of Lumia devices that run on Windows Phone in Malaysia sometime before the first quarter of next year. With a strong brand presence in the country, Nokia could just be what Windows Phone need to gain some mind share in Malaysia. But make no mistake, the Nokia Lumia devices are not magic bullets and Microsoft can’t depend on Nokia alone to solve the lack of awareness for its mobile platform. More needs to be done on Microsoft’s side to educate and drive conversation on the strengths and advantages of Windows Phone.

Speaking of which, TIME magazine has released its top ten lists of everything for the year. Naturally, the list of Top 10 gadgets for 2011 is something we are all very interested to see.

Viral video praises the Galaxy Nexus at the expense of the iPhone 4S

Posted:  December 18, 2011   By: ccsoya   3 comments

This viral video from Hong Kong pokes fun at Apple fans standing in line to purchase the iPhone 4S. The video follows the same concept and treatment as a series of commercials that Samsung aired in the US that also poked fun at Apple fans standing in line for the iPhone 4S.

The difference is where in the US commercial it is clear that Samsung was behind it with this one, the link is not as distinct. There’s no Samsung or Google branding except for the Galaxy Nexus being mentioned a number of times and the obvious attack on Apple with the mocking of the iPhone 4S and Siri.

What’s interesting about this video is that it was shot at the same location where people actually stood in line to purchase the iPhone 4S. The location became infamous because the people standing in line created such a ruckus that the Hong Kong police had to come and disperse.

But this is not the first time Samsung deployed viral videos to promote its mobile devices. Earlier this year, Samsung launched a viral campaign that was masked as a street video showing a local celebrity getting into an argument with his girlfriend.

The video, which received over 1.5 million hits in its debut week, featured the celebrity having quarreling with his girlfriend over a smartphone. The topic revolved around how the celebrity is not giving the girlfriend enough “holding hand” time because both of his hands are preoccupied operating his smartphone.

Head on over to after the jump for a translated transcript of the video above and the earlier viral video that Samsung released in Hong Kong. Let us know what you think about the videos in the comment section as well.

Maxis offering Nexus S from RM799 outright

Posted:  December 5, 2011   By: ccsoya   15 comments

UPDATE: Maxis Nexus S unit is using S-LCD, not Super AMOLED as reported earlier.

Yeap, you read that right. You can get the Nexus S from RM799 outright without any contract from Maxis. All you need to do is sign up for any Value Plus Internet plan and the Nexus S is your for RM799 at selected Maxis centres and MEPs. The offer starts today until stocks of the device is all sold.

It’s not a bad deal but if you’re in market for a decent Android smartphone, do take into account that the newer 1.4Ghz single-core Galaxy W is just RM200 more at RM999 outright. In terms of specs there’s really nothing much separating the two devices, both have 5MP cameras and 512MB RAM. Aside from that the Galaxy W shoots video in 720p which the Nexus S can’t but on the flipside the Nexus S has a bigger and better screen (4-inch Super AMOLEDS-LCD versus 3.7-inch S-LCD on the Galaxy W). You also get NFC with the Nexus S, on the Galaxy W you don’t.

The big deal is with the Nexus S being a Google phone, you can be sure that the Nexus will get Ice Cream Sandwich sooner that the Galaxy W, actually sooner than most Android devices.

And that’s pretty much it. We’re not discounting that this is still a decent deal if you don’t mind the trade-offs.

Head on over to after the jump for details on the selected Maxis centres and MEPs and answers to some of your frequently asked questions.
