Samsung reports that it has managed to sell 3 million of it latest flagship Android smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S II, within 55 days of the device being launched globally. The original Galaxy S took 85 days to hit the same mark.
There’s no doubt that Samsung’s Galaxy S line of smartphones are amongst the company’s most successful consumer devices but the number still pales in comparison to the iPhone 4. Apple reported that it sold 1.7 million units on June 26 2010, just two of days of device’s debut on June 24 last year.
Still, reception for the Galaxy S II has been tremendous. In Malaysia alone, people were already standing in line to purchase the device from day one. Although one could argue that the interest was mostly attributed to the fact that Maxis was offering a very attractive RM799 for the Galaxy S II, albeit to a very limited number of customers who must also sign up with a 24-months contract.
Having said that, word has it local Galaxy S II stocks are hard to come by, which is another indication of the device doing very well on the sales floor.

We still don’t get it.

What you’re looking at is the first official picture of the Samsung Galaxy S 2 that is schedule for an official debut tomorrow at the Samsung Unpacked event. Looks like the general design of the new Galaxy S remains unchanged and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
In terms of specs, it looks like everything that was reported earlier is pretty much the real deal.
At just 8.49mm thick (iPhone 4 9.3mm, current Samsung Galaxy S 9.9mm, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc 8.7mm) the new Galaxy S is virtually paper thin! So Samsung might just have themselves another top-seller here. We’re looking forward to the Unpacked event tomorrow to see what other features the Galaxy S 2 has to offer.
So what do you guys think? Drool-worthy or snoozy?

In under 2 weeks, Samsung will reveal the replacement for the current Samsung Galaxy S at Barcelona. With its Android rivals now churning out higher display resolutions and dual core processors, it is time for Samsung to stay ahead in the smart phone game with its new successor.
To build up some excitement ahead of the reveal, Samsung has released a teaser video for the upcoming device. From the last scene, the new Galaxy S looks pretty slim and perhaps even thinner than the iPhone 4 as speculated earlier. More videos are expected to be revealed before the launch on Samsung Unpacked website.

We know that the replacement for the popular Samsung Galaxy S is just around the corner — February 13 to be exact. We know that more information on the device will revealed on February 1, but not much have been revealed about the specifcations of Samsung next biggest Android powerhouse.
By our estimate, it will definitely have to run dual-core to stay current with the likes of the Atrix and the Optimus 2X but that’s just speculation but is it?
Korean site, Nocutnews has revealed more details on the new Galaxy S, a device known internally in Samsung by the codename “Seine”.
The report says that the new Galaxy S will feature a dual-core processor along with a huge 1GB of RAM with a GPU performance of five times faster than the current Galaxy S. In addition the Seine — named after a river in France — will pack 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display with WVGA resolution, an 8MP camera with full 1080p HD video recording, Android 2.3 OS along with NFC.

From a seperate source we’ve also gotten word that the new Galaxy S will feature a curved glass surface just like the Nexus S but the attention grabbing piece of news is that, it will also feature a vertical slide-out QWERTY keyboard, something that’s not unlike the BlackBerry Torch.
If this is anything to go by, the new Galaxy S will be something to look forward to indeed.

Every year, TIME magazine lists the top 10 of almost everything. In a lists of top tens in 50 categories the magazine susses out the highs and lows, the good and the bad, of the past 12 months. From top 10 albums to top 10 viral videos, the list is definitely worth a read.
In within the 50 top 10 categories is the top 10 gadgets for 2010, and the top ranking smart phone listed in in that list is one of our favourite Android phones for this year — the Samsung Galaxy S.
With its brilliant super AMOLED screen, speedy processor and awesome graphics capability the Galaxy S delivered performance a level higher than current crop of Android devices and — to a certain extent — even more than the ubiquitous iPhone.
Interestingly, the Galaxy S is listed well above the iPhone 4 which itself is listed below the Nexus One. So what does this tells us? It appears that 2010 is the year that Google’s Android becomes a legitimate contender in the mobile OS arena to formidably battle against the mighty iOS.
The question now is, will the Nexus S be able to maintain the momentum?
Head on after the jump for the full list.

Samsung Mobile India confirmed via its Twitter account that the Galaxy S will get Android 2.3 (Gingerbread not Gingerbeard
) BUT there’s no set date for the update release, so that’s a bit pointless.
The good thing is, since the statement came out from India, it is very likely that Asian Galaxy S users will get the update as well.
We’re still wondering when HTC Malaysia will announce Android 2.2 update for the HTC Legend.
