The 8MP shooter on the Galaxy S II is one of the best cameras you can get on a mobile phone. Only the Galaxy Note and the iPhone 4S is better than the Galaxy S II, we can certainly vouch for that, but how does it compare with the 5MP camera on the Galaxy Nexus?
Android Central attempts to answer that question and pitted the two devices against each other. So which on is better?
Sorry to burst your bubbles Galaxy Nexus users, the camera on the Galaxy S II better in virtually every aspect, including detail, colour reproduction and noise management. With ICS coming the Galaxy S II within a few months, you can expect the camera to be even better with the possible inclusion of Zero Shutter Lag and other software enhancements.
How much better is the Galaxy S II compared to the Galaxy Nexus? You can read the full review here or you can head on over to after the jump to see test shots taken using the two devices.
The Galaxy Nexus offers Zero Shutter lag which lets you take repeated shots instantly as soon as you tap on it. Recently Sony has introduced Fast Capture which claims to take the very first shot within 1.5 seconds with the screen switched off. So how does the 2 compare? Check out the video above where a Galaxy Nexus is compared with a Sony Xperia Ion.
The 12MP Camera on the Xperia S is identical and it was also as quick to take the shot in our first impression. Again speed and quality are 2 different things and hopefully the shots taken with final production units will be impressive.
While we attempt to upload the Galaxy Nexus hands-on video, take a look at some of the sample pictures we’ve taken using the device.
For a 5MP sensor, the detail that the camera on the Galaxy Nexus captures is staggering. Contrast and white balance is good too. Colour reproduction appears washed out for our liking but other than that having a 5MP sensor is by no means a disadvantage for the Galaxy Nexus even when compared to devices with cameras that have more MP.
So for those of you who want to get the Galaxy Nexus but is unsure about the 5MP camera, just look at the pictures. It looks like you really don’t have anything to worry about. And seeing that the device is expected to come to Malaysia before the end of this year, you don’t have to wait long to get one either.
Head on after the jump to check out the pictures we took using the 5MP shooter on the Galaxy Nexus.
Why 5MP when your competitors are running 8MP? That’s the biggest question everyone’s asking about the Galaxy Nexus, and its a legit question.
Camera performance will be a major deciding factor for those who are looking to purchase a next-generation smartphone. On the field at the moment we have the iPhone 4S, the Motorola RAZR and the Galaxy Nexus, and how good the camera is on each of these devices will make the difference between deal or no-deal for a lot of people.
Here’s a sample video taken using the 5MP sensor on the Galaxy Nexus. The same footage was shown at the Samsung Google event, you can view it now at your own time in all its 1080p glory.
If you’re wondering, yes, the video has been edited but the only processing done to the original footage was to speed it up in the first clip, and that shouldn’t affect the raw footage taken from the Galaxy Nexus much.
Its pretty impressive for a 5MP shooter don’t you think? For comparison, here’s a video sample taken using the iPhone 4S.
