We usually buy cases and casings to protect our expensive smart phones but have it occurred to you that your smart phone could one day safe your life?
That’s what happened to one HTC user who while on the job as a valet at a night club in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, was shot at when some disgruntled patrons of the club fired shots in the building’s direction. The man had his phone — possibly a Droid Incredible or an EVO 4G — in his left chest pocket had and it stopped a bullet from injuring him.
It’s a pretty amazing story but its definitely not unheard of. We know of at least two other similar incidences, one involving an Motorola Razr and the other a case in South America involving an obscure Nokia phone.

The green Android robot Andy has always seen as cute and bubbly despite having lack of expression on the face. What if it becomes evil and creepy like Chucky from Child’s Play?
Coming soon, there’s a movie called BlinkyTM that stars Max Records from “Where the Wild Things Are” and a green little droid that looks awfully familiar. We don’t want to spoil the trailer for you so watch the video after the jump.

Verizon Wireless with its DroidDoes campaign is promoting the new Motorola Droid 2 with this sophisticated ad. Pretty high grade ad campaign which demostrates the new device slider QWERTY keyboard, 1GHz processor and corporate mail support.

While HTC users in China get to enjoy Android 2.2 Froyo on the current HTC Android devices, HTC EVO 4G users have officially gotten their Froyo update in the US. This makes it the 2nd phone to get Froyo after Nexus One over that side of the world.
The new update gave the EVO 4G similar Android 2.2 features plus a few stuff from HTC, such as a Flashlight app, updates on FM Radio, MMS and Photo Gallery apps. Android Central has a detailed list of the new changes in their EVO 4G Froyo post. As mentioned earlier, we should be expecting HTC’s Froyo update for the rest of us anytime soon.
For those who are having Android’s best selling Motorola Droid/Milestone,
an update is expected to come next week. Verizon, the official carrier for the Moto Droid in the US has updated its support page in time for the upgrade.
We should be expecting more announcements of Froyo roll out in the next couple of days. Samsung too has announced that the Galaxy S is getting Froyo by September. So far, the only quiet one is Sony Ericsson which seems to be stuck with Android 1.6 until today.
This is it folks! Q3 is showtime for Froyo.

With a 480×854 4.3 inch screen, 1Ghz processor with 512MB RAM, 8MP camera with autofocus and dial flash, 720p video recording, three microphones (one for phone, one for noise cancellation and another for video recording) plus HDMI out, there’s no denying that the Droid X has awesome specs and if the success of the Milestone is anything to go, Motorola will have another hot Android smartphone in its stable.
The Droid X will be officially launched in the US tomorrow (early morning Malaysia time) and ahead of the launch, the people at Verizon — the carrier that will be offering the device — has released a teaser video online.
We don’t know what to make out of it, but it sure does look like something big is happening.
Alas, for now, we can only hope for the Droid X to make the jump into international waters just like the much liked Milestone. We’re waiting Motorola.
Check out the teaser video after the jump.

A monthly metrics report from mobile ad network, AdMob reveals the most popular Android phones currently on the market. Surprisingly Google’s flagship Nexus One is the least popular whilst Motorola Droid/Milestone tops the chart.
The findings was gathered from close to 13 million Android phones that are currently on the AdMob network in the month of May. This explains why some of the more recently released phones like the Samsung Galaxy S and the Droid X are not on the list while devices like the HTC Legend and HTC Desire are still trying to find traction against the other devices that have been in the market for a longer period like the HTC Hero which is currently sitting at the #2 on the popular Android phone list.
Currently, about 21% of Android phones being used are Motorola Droids/Miletones, while 16% of Android users own the old school HTC Hero. Alarmingly, Google’s Nexus One consist of only 2% of phones running Android. Hardly a fitting performance considering Google manufactured the Nexus One as a showcase of the perfect Android integration between software and hardware.

The replacement for the popular Motorola Droid or Milestone is becoming less of a rumour now. Droid-Life has exclusive photos and videos of what appears to be the Motorola Droid 2.
It looks pretty much the same as the original Droid except for the obvious revamped keyboard layout. Perhaps Motorola doesn’t want to mess up something that people already like and the Droid 2 stay true to its original design which is a good thing in our opinion.

Motorola has just released its first quarter numbers for 2010 and announced that it had turned in a profit somewhat due to strong sales from its Droid smartphone (aka. Motorola Milestone here in Malaysia).
Motorola reported a strong 2.3 million units of the Droid sold, exceeding what it had projected. Despite the strong Droid sales Motorola’s other divisions didn’t do so well with it’s Mobile Devices and Home units still making losses. However, its Enterprise Mobility Solutions and Networks businesses supplied enough profit to prop up the company’s earnings.
In the early 2000s Motorola was amongst the leading mobile phone makers in the world with its iconic Razr line of ultra-thin mobile phones. Now the American company is expected to rank in the seventh or eighth position in global mobile phone market share behind Nokia, Samsung and LG.
