The Star’s TechCentral got their hands on a Dell Streak and has just outted an unboxing video.
Aside from stating the obvious, the TechCentral geeks really didn’t say anything much about the Streak. They fail to highlight that there’s a dual LED flash next to the camera, that the back plate is made out of metal.
Upon opening the back plate the unboxer didn’t say what capacity battery the Streak comes with. The unboxer didn’t say how much on board memory the device has and whether it comes bundled with a memory card. Simply put, there’s so much you can say in an unboxing the this video has fail to highlight.
The unboxer will probably say that those details will be saved for the review, but everyone knows a good unboxing video should include these perliminary details.
And no guys, running a key up and down the screen without any or very little pressure doesn’t account for a scratch test ok.
Dell, come one, give us a unit, we can do better.

The dude that tweeted that the Dell Streak is here could very well be pulling your leg.
Reuters revealed that the Dell’s first Android tablet will only enter Asia-Pacific markets early next year. As in around the first quarter of 2011.
Here’s an excerpt from the Reuters report:
“We have not yet announced the expansion plans for Streak in Asia. I suspect the early part of next year we’ll see that product,” said Steve Felice, president of Dell’s small and medium business unit.
What might make into the Malaysian market within this year is the Dell Aero. The Dell Aero, also known as the Dell Mini 3i in China, is an Android HSDPA (3.6Mbps download) smartphone with a 3.5in screen, 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash, running a Marvell PXA310 624 MHz processor and get this, Android 1.5. If Dell is serious about selling this by the bucket load, the had better ship APAC-bound Aeros with Android 2.1 at least.
So could the popular TwitPic, now viewed close to 1,800 times, be the result of an over-excited, Dell product tester? If indeed the Streak will only come to this region early 2011, then the Twitter announcement from Dell is very, very premature. Wonder if @dellmsia will have an counter-statement to the Reuters report.
But then again, could the report be completely wrong? Because it looks like @starintech has already gotten a unit for review. Hmmm. This is getting very interesting.

We’re getting more curious on this little 5″ Android tablet device after being teased that its coming to Malaysia. It so happen that the folks at iFixit has done a teardown on the Dell Streak as well. Now we’re able to take a closer peek on the device and what goes inside.
According to their findings, the Dell Streak has easy access to its battery and it seems easy to dismantle as well. The components are connected using standard ZIF cable which is good for ease of removal. However they found that the back plastic cover is a little cheap for a $600 device like this. Another discovery they shared is that the front Gorilla glass is bonded together with the LCD. If you cracked the glass, you would need to replace the whole thing including the LCD which would probably cost a bomb.

First up we’d like to point out that is probably, one of the ugliest box we’ve ever seen. Hope this gets fixed when the Streak comes to Malaysia.
As much as we wished we’ve gotten our hands on the Dell Streak before it arrives in Malaysia, we didn’t. So we’ll have to just be contented with reading about the Dell Streak from other sites and start compiling the information and set expectations in preparation for when we do get a unit to play with.
And when it comes to reviews, not many sites out there are as detailed as AnandTech, so while we wait for the Dell Streak to make its public appearance here in Malaysia, take a read at what the geeks at AnadTech have to say about the Dell Streak. But we’ll have to warn you, it’s a long review.
If you can’t be bothered to read through everything, allow us to sum it up for you.

Dell has revealed that the Dell Streak has arrived in Malaysia. The Streak is a 5 inch Android Tablet that was just launched not too long ago in the US.
No details on local pricing yet but as a comparison, it is sold in the US at US$549.99 which is roughly RM1,740. Other than that, we don’t know when the Streak will be launched. All we know is that it will be launched.
Specs wise, the Dell Streak will be packing a 5-inch capacitive multi-touch WVGA (800×480) display, the potent and proven, 1GHz Snapdragon processor with 512MB RAM and 512MB ROM. There’s 2GB on board memory with a MicroSD expansion slot capable of supporting up to 32GB cards giving the Streak a total potential storage limit of 34GB, a considerable 32GB short of Apple’s most expansive iPad.
The Streak comes with two cameras — one, a 5MP camera with autofocus and dual LED flash and the other a VGA front-facing camera. Connectivity comes in the form 3G HSPA with 7.2Mbps download, 5.76Mbps upload) + Wi-Fi (b/g) and Bluetooth 2.1.
The Twitter announcement from Dell Malaysia’s official accound is exciting but it leaves loads of questions that still needs answering. Chief of which is the OS that the Malaysia bound Streak will be running. State side Streaks are running the ancient Android 1.6 while EU bound Streaks will get an upgrade to Android 2.1.
We don’t know about you, but we’re not expecting anything below Android 2.1. If the Streaks that’s coming to Malaysia wil immediately have Froyo, even better.
Another question is will Maxis — the telco with the most Android phones in its lineup — offer the Dell Streak with a contract tie-up. For our sake, we hope they do. A Dell Streak with a 12 months contract can theoretically go for as low as RM1,300 (thereabouts). If that’s indeed the case, we’ll signup in a heartbeat.
While we all wait for the big announcement from Dell Malaysia, head on over to after the jump to check out official videos on the Dell Streak.

Dell has finally released the Streak, which is a 5 inch Android powered tablet after speculation of delays earlier on. It will be sold for $299.99 (around RM950.00) via AT&T with a 2 year contract and $549.99 (around RM1,740.00) out right. Early birds that purchase during the pre-sale will get a free second-day shipping.
So what’s the Streak all about? It is 5 incher with dimensions placed smacked in the middle between a normal phone and a tablet like the iPad. Inside the Streak, it runs on the familiar 1GHz Qualcomm processor, a 5 MP Camera with dual flash, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2GB of storage expandable with 16GB microSD card. The 5″ screen has a resolution of 800×480 which is pretty standard on high end Android devices today. The biggest gripe we have is that it runs on Android 1.6.
Some were saying that this competes against the iPad but it is too early to agree with that claim for now. It feels like a bigger version of a big screen phone like a HTC EVO 4G. There are several reviews of the Streak demo units and you can read them up on CrunchGear or Engadget.
Those in the US can register their details to be the first to know about the presale.
No words on international launch of the Dell Streak is available at the moment.
