Celcom turns to airport cabs to sell prepaid broadband

Posted:  June 3, 2009   By: soyacincau   2 comments

As mobile broadband war heats up, Celcom is targeting a niche segment of foreigners with the help of Airport Limo cabs. Its CMO Chee Pok Jin said Celcom is spending under RM1 million to introduce this new service over the next 6 months and targets to acquire 400 customers per day.

Their strategy is simple, to target foreigners who often had to pay premium at hotels for internet access. With Celcom Prepaid, this would be a cheaper choice for foreigners.

During the campaign period, it is understood that the Airport Limo taxi drivers will act as ambassador for the travelers by answering queries and questions on Celcom Prepaid. We’re wondering if the taxi drivers are well trained for such a task but probably Celcom would bundle a product/FAQ kit that is easy for first time users to understand in various languages.

Another thing that we noticed is that registration is not required.

Dubbed “Celcom Mobile Broadband Airport Limousine”, it offers a ready-to-use mobile broadband package without the need for customer registration in collaboration with Airport Limo (M) Sdn Bhd, which operates taxi services to and from the airport.

Last we recalled, all prepaid sold in Malaysia must be registered with supporting ID or passport. Suddenly it appears that prepaid for broadband is spared from such ruling.
