It’s official, the Samsung Galaxy S will be getting Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Samsung Mobile Finland confirms that the roll-out of the upgrade will begin mid of April starting from Europe, so we can expect the update to be available for Galaxy S users in Malaysia sometime early May. This is of course assuming Samsung stays firm on the release date. Fingers crossed!

Having two screens on a mobile phone would be better than having one right? Maybe, and that’s the logic behind this latest Android phone to hit the market. The Kyocera Echo’s claim to fame is its unique dual-touchscreen setup consisting of two 3.5 inch 480×800 screens on two separate halves linked together with a proprietary hinge that’s made out of titanium which is developed in-house by Kyocera.
Hardware wise, the Echo packs a second generation 1GHz Snapdragon processor (QSD 8650) running Froyo (Android 2.2). There’s 1GB of on-board storage and an 8GB micro SD card included in the box (the micro SD card slot support cards up to 32GB).
If you’re wondering why the Echo is running a slightly dated Android OS it’s because Kyocera says that the dual screen interface required extensive customisation to the seven core native apps which includes the messaging, browser and email apps so that the user can utilise both screens when using these applications.

Good news for HTC Wildfire users! The Android 2.2 Froyo update is finally available for South East Asian region via Over The Air (OTA) update. This comes just several days after it was made available in Europe. You should be getting a software update notification soon or if you can’t wait, you can download it immediately at [ Settings > About Phone > System Software Updates ].
The latest firmware carries the number 2.24.707.1 and if you don’t have a data plan, we strongly suggest you download via WiFi. As per any software upgrade, it is advisable to backup your data first before proceeding. Support details are now showing at HTC SEA support page.
Thanks to @whitegoh for updating us via twitter and Syahmi at the comments!

Last week we saw HTC releasing the long awaited Froyo update for the HTC Legend and HTC Aria. The next question is when is the HTC Wildfire‘s turn? We’ve been tipped that HTC Wildfire users in Europe are starting to get their Froyo update via OTA right now. This means that Malaysian users could possibly getting theirs in the next couple of days if it follows the same trend as the HTC Legend.
In the case of the Legend, the Froyo update for South East Asia (SEA) users was pushed about a week after Europe. Watch out for updates on HTC SEA support page or try checking manually in the next few days at [ Settings > About Phone > System Software Updates ].
Special thanks to Alvin for the heads up!

Before all you HTC Legend owners out here — us included — go out for celebratory drinks, you must know that the OS update is only for European region.
HTC UK has confirmed on its Facebook page that European HTC Legends will be getting the update to Android 2.2.
As for us, we’re waiting for an update from HTC Malaysia on when local Legends be getting the 2.2 update. Fingers crossed it won’t be far off from the European release.
It’s times like this when this Android fragmentation thing starts being a pain in the SD card slot, if you get what we mean.

Google Instant, some love it and some hate it. Either way, having the option to see actual search results as you type is always something good to have.
Previously, the Google Instant feature is available only on full featured desktop browsers but not anymore. The beta version of Google Instant is now available for mobile devices running iOS 4 and Android Froyo and it only supports US English at the moment. Google says support for more devices and languages will be coming soon.
To try it out, go to google.com in your phone’s browser and tap the Google Instant “Turn on” link beneath the search box (if you don’t see the “Turn on” link, try waiting a moment and then refresh the page).
But be warned, Google Instant for mobile works best on speedy networks so if your 3G or WiFi connection is slow it’s best you just switch the feature off.
Head on to after the jump for a short demo video of Google Instant for mobile.

HTC has announced that the HTC Legend will be getting its long awaited Android 2.2 update via Facebook. The message read as follows:
We know that a number of you have been very vocal about wanting an update for your Legend. First and foremost, we would like to apologize for not responding to your ongoing pleas about the update. But we have been listening. We have been working hard to find the most accurate information about how the update is progressing, and when it will be ready for all of you – thankfully, you won’t have to wait much longer! Below you’ll find all the information we can share right now.
The update has been progressing quite well, and in the coming weeks those with unbranded Legends should be receiving the update.
For those of you with carrier-branded versions of Legend there will be a slightly longer wait. Once we finalize the update within HTC, the software must then go through the appropriate approval process at each carrier that supports Legend on their network. This is the same process for all of our handsets, and Legend is no different. Once our update has been approved by your specific carrier, you should then receive your software update. How long this process takes can vary, but our team is close to finishing the update and will then work with individual carriers for approval.
If you have any other questions please feel free to ask here. We will share as much information as we can. Thanks for your patience and for being a HTC customer!
This is good news for HTC Legend users as they will get improved performance of Froyo and added features that come with it. However we don’t think they will be getting access to the recently announced HTC Sense remote management service. HTC Legend users here better keep an eye out on HTC SEA support page or check for software OTA updates on the device.
Previously HTC Singapore had commented that the Legend will not get Froyo but retracted shortly after. After that, there’s some information that a Froyo update is on the way to HTC Desire, Legend and Wildfire. So far only the Desire has it but we have yet to see any news of Froyo upgrade for the rest of its Android devices launched this year including the HTC Aria.

Samsung has officially announced that their Galaxy S is getting Froyo update from today onwards. This will be rolled out in phases starting with the Nordic region, followed by Europe, South East Asia, Middle East, North America, Africa and the rest of the globe.
While most Froyo updates are done via OTA, Samsung is pushing this via Kies, its desktop application which can be downloaded from Samsung Mobile. This new update will offer faster performance thanks to Android 2.2 Just In Time compiler and a better web experience with Adobe Flash support.
The new extra with this update includes the following:
-Android 2.2 JIT compiler
-Adobe Flash Player 10.1 compatibility
-New Android Market with auto-updating
-Speed improvements
-Pinch-to-zoom homescreen flyover
-Improved default keyboard
-Quick links to “GPS” and “Auto rotation” toggles on notification bar added
-Slightly different graphics and transitions with app drawer and default icon dock
-Colored icons in settings
-GPS Fix
-Colored settings icons
-Media Hub
-Darker menu theme, navy blue color
-Better Exchange support
-Video records in MP4 format
-New Search widget
-New Gmail application
