Samsung Galaxy Tab with 7″ Super AMOLED displayed

Samsung Mobile Display has showcased what seems to be the first ever Samsung Galaxy Tab with a 7″ Super AMOLED screen. According to OLED-Display, this 7″ screen capable of displaying 1200×600 pixels which is slightly more than the current 1024×600 pixels that we get from the current TFT-LCD Galaxy Tab.

Do note that this is just a prototype on display by Samsung Mobile Display at FPD International 2010. It is unknown whether Samsung will release such version for the Galaxy Tab but this demonstrates Samsung’s capability of making such display. Other interesting products on showcase also includes a flexible 4.5″ AMOLED display with 800×480 resolution.

Check out Samsung’s introductory video of Super AMOLED after the jump.

Samsung Wave II – Super Clear LCD TFT Display vs Super AMOLED

Posted:  October 19, 2010   By: soyacincau   3 comments

The Samsung Wave II features a display with a name that’s quite a mouthful. They call it the Super Clear LCD TFT display which is Samsung’s alternative to Super AMOLED. As you might already know, Super AMOLED is in short supply and most manufacturers had to resort to Super LCDs manufactured by Sony.

When we saw a comparison of Sony’s Super LCD vs AMOLED, there’s a slight disadvantage which is barely noticable when looked sideways. So how does this Super Clear LCD TFT fare against Samsung’s top of the range Super AMOLED? Mobile Review had a brief hands on to compare it against 3 devices – Samsung Galaxy S, Nokia N8 and the Samsung Wave.

Surprisingly the Super Clear LCD TFT did pretty well as shown above. We’re not too sure how does it look like in an actual hands on but the comparison photo clearly shows its superiority.

Check out more comparison photos at Mobile Review.

CBD vs Retina Display under direct sunlight

Posted:  September 15, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

Nokia claims it’s new AMOLED with Clear Black Display trumps all other display technologies when it comes to visibility under direct sunlight.

Engadget has put up a side-by-side comparison between Nokia’s latest E7 with the iPhone 4 Retina Display and although we have some reservations on the accuracy of the camera’s ability to capture accurately what our eyes can under direct sunlight – taking into account polarisation and everything – but we’ll agree that there’s barely a discernible difference between the two display technologies.

Check out the video on Engadget’s site.

Nokia Clear Black Display (CBD) vs iPhone Retina Display

Posted:  September 15, 2010   By: soyacincau   No comments

Nokia’s recently introduced C6, C7 and E7 comes with a Clear Black Display (CBD). The engadget team that was covering the Nokia World 2010 event managed to compare a prototype E7 against the iPhone 4.

According to engadget, the iPhone 4′s 3.5″ retina display at 960×640 seems to have noticeable blue warmth and it isn’t as vibrant or bright as the CBD. However the CBD does seem to be oversaturated.

From their short play, they reported that the Nokia E7′s AMOLED is just as good as the Samsung Galaxy S‘s Super AMOLED screen. We’ve yet to see its true potential outdoors considering CBD’s true strength lies on visibility under sunlight. Check out more comparison shots after the jump.

Super LCD vs AMOLED Display Comparison

Posted:  July 27, 2010   By: soyacincau   5 comments

With HTC announcing its switch to Sony’s Super LCD display, many are wondering how does Super LCD compare to AMOLED? Howard forums had recorded a video to compare LCD (Motorola Droid/Milestone), Super LCD (HTC Desire), AMOLED (Nexus One) and Super AMOLED (Samsung Wave) displays.

Overall, the Super LCD is very similar to AMOLED display unless it is viewed sideways where the AMOLED reign supreme. Contrast for the Super LCD still loses out to AMOLED display but it is barely noticeable. HTC did mentioned that using Super LCD will give “better” battery life compared to AMOLED but so far we haven’t heard anything that proves this.

Check out the video after the jump to see it for yourself.

HTC using SLCDs, AMOLEDs in very short supply

Posted:  July 27, 2010   By: ccsoya   5 comments

In an official statement, HTC confirmed that they will be using Super LCD developed by Sony as displays in devices like the Desire and Nexus One.

Though not officially indicated in the statement, it is a widespread understanding that Samsung’s AMOLED display are in short supply and demand for HTC devices are strong that they have to look at other display alternatives to ensure that they are able to keep supply in check.

We haven’t had any experience with SLCD but it’s going to be interesting to see how it compares against AMOLED and Apple’s Retina Display technology.

Interestingly, when it comes to displays, Samsung is the world leader with 1 in 5 panel TVs being a Samsung.

Indestructible AMOLED: We’re looking at it and still we can’t believe it

Posted:  July 20, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

Samsung, the champions for display technology, has developed a film thin AMOLED display that is flexible and — as it appears — seemingly indestructible; a super, super AMOLED of sorts

Sources say that Samsung is looking to have this in mobile phones by 2012.

Check out the LCD carnage after the jump.
