This is it. If you’re looking for a new mid-range smartphone with an 18:9/Full display from Xiaomi, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are now available in Malaysia. Priced from RM679, this is the most affordable “Full Display” smartphone you can buy in Malaysia.

The Redmi 5 is officially priced at RM679 and it comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. Meanwhile, the larger Redmi 5 Plus is going for RM749 and it also comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage. Both models are available in Black, Blue and Gold.

Authorised retailer DirectD had announced the availability of the Redmi 5/Redmi 5 Plus at their stores last Friday but the Facebook post was later pulled down a couple of hours later. It’s worth mentioning that the official price is the same as their announcement.

For those looking for a different variant, Xiaomi says they will be bringing in the 2GB RAM + 16GB storage model for the Redmi 5 and a higher spec 4GB RAM + 64GB storage option for Redmi 5 Plus at a later date. You can learn more about the hardware specs in our Redmi 5 announcement post.

If you’re interested, you can order the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus at the official Mi Store on Lazada Malaysia. Alternatively you can get it at authorised Mi physical stores and retailers, and you can find the list of participating outlets here.
