Batteries on smartphones will deteriorate over time and it all depends on the way you charge your device. For most people, the typical habit is to leave your smartphone charging overnight. This practice is often frowned upon as trickle charging to keep your phone’s battery constantly at 100% could shorten its overall lifespan. But what else can you do if you need a fully charged device for the next busy day?
To solve this charging dilemma, there’s a smart charging cable called Charby Sense and it’s intelligent enough to stop charging once your phone has hit 100%. This is probably the only charging cable you’ll ever need and it’s made by a Malaysian startup consisting of UTM graduates.
The Charby Sense addresses two key issues, overcharging and slow charging. To prolong your smartphone’s battery life, it has a smart current sensing feature which will cut off power once your phone is fully charged. This reduces overheating and unnecessary stress to the battery.
To reduce the time to charge, the cable supports 2.4Amp, Samsung Adaptive Fast Charge and QuickCharge 2.0/3.0 Fast Charge standards. Even if you plan on using your laptop’s slow USB port to charge, it even has a charge booster feature which is said to push a higher output of 0.8A instead of the usual 0.4-0.5A.
For greater convenience, the USB Type-A connector is reversible, so you can plug it into your power brick or power bank without fumbling which is the correct side up. Another nice touch is its smart LED feature on the connector head. Not only this lets you know that charging is in progress, it also tells you if it’s currently in slow or fast charging mode.
The charging cable is 1.2m (4 feet) long, which is said to be the ideal size. For greater durability, it has nylon braiding with kevlar reinforcement. According to Charby, their cable is more durable than typical cables as it passes over 15,000 bend tests and 10,000 plug tests.
