HTC U11+ U11 Life

HTC will be making a new device announcement tomorrow but looks like the cat is finally out of the bag. A hands-on video of the U11+ and the mid-range U11 Life has surfaced online, and it confirms almost everything we know so far about HTC’s next big thing.

HTC U11+

The hands-on video is in German but if you don’t understand, not to worry. According to this Reddit thread, the U11+ gets a 6″ display and it has a contextually aware edge sense. If we understand correctly, it providers different squeeze actions depending on what app or screen you’re on. In the video, you could see a wireless charging coil underneath its glass back.

Since the 18:9 screen occupies the entire front, it now has a rear fingerprint sensor. Unlike other smartphone makers, HTC is still sticking to a single rear camera and it is likely to be the same 12MP f/1.7 unit that’s found on its current HTC U11 flagship.

The U11+ appears to have a rotating on-screen dock which gives you instant access to tools and favourite apps. For ease of single-handed use, you can swipe down mid-way to bring down notifications and swiping up would display your app drawer.

In terms of specs, it was mentioned that the battery is almost 4000mAh in capacity and it comes with 128GB of storage. All of this matches the info provided by @evleaks. As speculated earlier, the U11+ will come with IP68 water resistance and would still feature its signature Boom Sound speakers.

UPDATE: For a clearer illustration, @evleaks has shared a render of the U11+ in Translucent Black:

HTC U11 Life

Apart from its flagship phablet, the U11 Life is also shown in its full glory. As a mid-range device, it comes with a 5.2″ display and it uses polycarbonate for its back. Interestingly, it runs on Android One which offers a full stock experience. It also comes with HTC’s squeezable Edge sense along with a 16MP selfie camera.

Design wise, the U11 Life looks like a typical HTC U series device and it would be the successor of the HTC U Play that was launched early this year. What’s interesting is that the U11 Life is said to be water resistant but there’s no mention of its rating at the moment.

In terms of price, it was mentioned that the U11+ is going for 849 Swiss Francs (about RM3,590) while the U11 Life is priced at 349 Swiss Francs (about RM1,475). Since these are European pricing, we expect both to be priced lower when it hits the Malaysian market. The U11+ and U11 Life will be revealed officially tomorrow.
