The Moto Z and Moto Z Play smartphones are finally official for the Malaysian market. Not only does this mark the return of a Moto flagship in Malaysia, but they are also the first to introduce a modular concept that works in an instant.

Moto Z

The Moto Z is the reincarnation of the legendary Moto RAZR with its razor-thin design. It’s only 5.2mm thin and it packs top of the line specs. The front gets a 5.5″ Quad HD AMOLED display and it runs on a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB RAM. On board, it has 64GB of storage and it is expandable with microSD slot.

For photography, it gets a 13MP f/1.8 camera with OIS, Laser Auto Focus and dual-tone LED flash. Meanwhile, the front gets a 5MP f/2.2 shooter.

Like the iPhone 7, it lacks a headphone jack but it comes with a USB Type-C to 3.5mm adapter. For Malaysia, the Moto Z is a dual-SIM device and it supports 4G VoLTE. There’s also a fingerprint reader at the front.

Keeping the lights on is a 2,600mAh battery which is rated to last up to 24 hours. There’s also Turbo Charging technology which pushes up to 7 hours of battery life with a quick 15 minutes charge. The Moto Z isn’t waterproof but it gets a water repellent nano-coating for splash resistance.

For optics, it has a 16MP f/2.0 camera with Laser AutoFocus and PDAF, while the front gets a 5MP camera with LED flash. Compared to the Moto Z, the Moto Z Play is thicker at 6.9mm but it packs a larger 3,510mAh battery which also supports TurboPower charging technology.

The Moto Z is a Dual-SIM device with 4G VoLTE support and it charges up via USB Type-C. Also included is a standard 3.5mm headphone jack which is good news for music enthusiast. The Moto Z Play is priced officially at RM1,799 and it is also available for pre-order starting on 4th November. The first 50 pre-order customers for the Moto Z and Moto Z Play will get a JBL SoundBoost Speaker Mod for free.

Moto Mods

What separates the Moto Z series from the rest is its easy to snap on Moto Mods. Unlike the LG G5, there’s no need to power down the device. Just snap it on and you’re good to go.

Hasselblad True Zoom Moto Mods turns your Moto Z into a 10X Optical Zoom camera. It has a 12MP 1/2.3″ sensor that has a pixel size of 1.55 micron. The True Zoom mod also has xenon flash for better illumination.
