UPDATE: The highest spec Mi 5s Plus with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is also available.

It would take Xiaomi a while before they introduce their latest flagship smartphones in Malaysia. However, thanks to grey importers like DirectD, the Xiaomi Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus are finally here with ready stocks. What’s interesting is that the Mi 5s on offer is more affordable than the current Xiaomi Mi 5 that’s officially available here.

Mi 5s

The Xiaomi Mi 5s with a compact 5.15″ Full HD display is going for only RM1,499 for its 3GB RAM + 64GB storage model. Meanwhile, its higher spec’ed- 4GB RAM and 128GB storage model is going for RM1,799. To recap on the specs, the Mi 5s runs on the latest Snapdragon 821 Quad-Core processor which is a notch higher than the Snapdragon 820 unit found on most flagship smartphones today. The rear boasts a 12MP f/2.0 main camera with a larger Sony IMX378 1/2.3″ sensor while the front retains the familiar 4MP f/2.0 “Ultrapixel” snapper.

Despite having an extra “s” to the name, the Mi 5s looks different from its current Mi 5. It has an all metal body with visible antenna lines while the front fingerprint scanner is an ultrasonic unit tucked underneath its front glass panel. The battery is bumped up to 3,200mAh and it supports QuickCharge 3.0 via its USB Type-C port.

Mi 5s Plus

The larger Mi 5s Plus with a 5.7″ Full HD screen is also offered at RM1,799 for the lower spec 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model. The high spec 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model is also available at RM1,999 with limited stocks.

Another plus for this model is its dual 13MP camera setup at the rear. Similar to Huawei’s P9 flagship camera, one sensor takes pictures in black and white while the other shoots in colour. Over at the front, it sports a 4MP f/2.0 shooter. Being a larger phablet, it packs a higher capacity 3,800mAh battery that also charges via USB Type-C. Unlike the Mi 5s, the Mi 5s Plus gets a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner placed right below its dual camera.

Take note that these are imported units and they are not covered by Xiaomi Malaysia’s official warranty. If you’re interested, head over to DirectD’s Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus pages.
