The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will be launched next week and coincidentally a new device has popped by our Malaysian SIRIM database. Carrying the serial number SM-N9208, the new device is listed with Dual-SIMs and it supports our 4G LTE bands as well as 802.11ac WiFi. From the looks of it, this could be Samsung’s first flagship device with dual-SIMs that’s going to be sold officially in Malaysia.
If you’re unconvinced, the Galaxy Note series usually carry the “SM-N9” prefix for its model number. The Galaxy Note 3 for example is known as the SM-9005 while its cheaper Note 3 Neo carries the SM-N750 code. Meanwhile the Galaxy Note 4 for Malaysia (Exynos Version) carries the model number SM-910C while its Note edge version is also known as the SM-N915F. This isn’t the first time Samsung has made a DUOS version of its high-end device and there are a number of grey-import Galaxy S6 sold here with dual-SIM support.
A quick search on Google also reveals that the same model is a Galaxy Note 5 variant for the Taiwanese and Chinese market. A dual-SIM Galaxy Note 5 shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the newer flagships launched in Malaysia recently are dual-SIM ready, like the Xperia Z3+ Dual and the HTC One E9+. Even the upcoming OnePlus 2 and the recently launched Mi Note in Malaysia comes with dual-SIM and 4G LTE support as well.
Since dual-SIMs have become a standard offering for low to mid-spec smart phones, it does make sense for Samsung to offer dual-SIM flagships as its consumers graduates to a more upmarket model. Would dual-SIM be a major factor when buying a flagship device? Let us know in the comments below.
