Xiaomi is on a roll and after 5 years in the business, they are looking for bigger growth in 2015. During its global supplier conference, its CEO Lei Jun has mentioned that Xiaomi is targeting to ship 80-100 million smart phones this year.

That’s quite a huge target which isn’t surprising considering it came up to be among the world’s Top 5 smart phone makers last year. It is reported that Xiaomi has sold over 65 million units in 2014 and most of it are from its affordable Redmi series. No doubt that gave mainstream players some serious beating in the affordable segment.

Its instant flash sales are a huge hit and more often Xiaomi find themselves struggling to make as much smart phones as possible to cope with demand. The latest Redmi 2 would be its new volume driver offering a decent smart phone experience with dual-SIMs, 4G LTE and at a low price point. It was recently rumoured that Xiaomi could be working on an even cheaper device with the use of more cost effective processors.

Like all things popular, Xiaomi will be facing challenges from its home ground rivals. After disrupting the market, more makers are trying to play the same game of introducing cheap and good smart phones that would sell in huge volumes. One of them is Meizu which recently launched a similarly priced 5″ smart phone. Others include Huawei’s Honor as well as India’s Micromax. All Xiaomi needs to do is to maintain its appeal and having a constant stream of stocks in its operating markets. In the end, it is the consumer that’s going to benefit with a wide choice of decent phones without paying too much.
