Apple had it bad last week with the bendgate debacle, sparking countless of jokes and parodies of the iPhone 6 Plus. Now Samsung is reported to have an issue on their own as the Galaxy Note 4 is now officially rolling out in their home ground South Korea.

One of their local press had reported that there’s a gap issue affecting the Galaxy Note 4 and it puts their build quality under the spotlight. So is this something to worry about?

As seen above, the gap between the display and metal frame is said to be big enough to fit a business card. Surprisingly Samsung is aware of such gaps and it appears that it is considered normal on the Galaxy Note 4.

There’s actually a section under Troubleshooting which addresses gap issues on the exterior of the device. It even says that the gap is a necessary manufacturing feature and some minor rocking or vibration of parts may occur. Furthermore it also added that the gap might possibly widen over time due to friction of parts. You can download the manual over here and check out page 180.

During our hands-on with the Galaxy Note 4, we didn’t notice any gap issues and it was well put together. We are not sure if this is an isolated issue but it is definitely intriguing to have it acknowledged officially in the manual. So far there’s no word if this “manufacturing feature” would be rectified in future batches. While it seems to be nothing to worry about, the second statement that the gap might widen would certainly raise concerns on its long term durability.

What do you guys think?
