In search of affordable: ASUS introduces EeeBook, wants to bring cheap computing to the masses

ASUS wants to bring cheap computing to the masses, and while this isn’t ASUS’ first attempt at making cheap computers (remember the EeePC that started the netbook craze?), the just announced EeeBook X205 looks interesting. Starting at €199, the EeeBook X205 packs a quad-core Intel Atom T3735 Bay Trail processor, 2GB of RAM, a 1366×768 LED backlit screen, a VGA webcam, a microSDXC slot and a micro-HDMI socket — all this in a package that weighs a smidgen under 1kg.

The specs may not be groundbreaking but if you need a machine for casual browsing (12 hours of browsing on a single charge, according to ASUS) and some light work, the EeeBook can work. There are four colours to choose from — black, white, gold or red — and you get a full-sized keyboard along with a large trackpad to get things done. In terms of storage, you can choose either 32GB or 64GB of flash memory on top of a generous 500GB of ASUS WebStorage for free for two years.

No word on when this EeeBook is coming to Malaysia but we’ll keep you posted. In the mean time, check out our hands-on photos with the ASUS EeeBook after the break.
