When Apple introduced its new iOS 8 at WWDC, their new Message app has been revamped with push to talk and video message. With the features very much similar to WhatsApp, its CEO Jan Koum had tweeted that he’s “flattered” to see Apple “borrowing” features from Whatsapp in their messaging app.
This isn’t the first time copying has happened. While Apple has revolutionised touch screen smart phones with the iPhone, most of the features introduced these days are merely playing catch up with the current trend. This includes interactive notifications and gesture keyboards that have been implemented by other mobile platforms. Ironically, Whatsapp too has been accused for ripping off BlackBerry’s BBM messenger with its delivery status and group messaging. The success of WhatsApp is attributed to its clever approach of supporting cross-platform. This propelled it to become an instant hit that even threatens the usage of SMS.
The truth is WhatsApp has nothing to worry about considering Apple’s iMessage only works with their own device. Who knows one day Apple might just open up its messaging feature to all, but that’s wishful thinking.

It has been rumoured for quite some time now that Samsung is working on a high-end version of its Galaxy S5 that’s speculated to be called as the Galaxy S5 Prime or Galaxy F series. Serial leaker @Evleaks has just posted what claims to be the new Galaxy F which promises a more uprated build than its current flagship model.
The design while appears to be similar to the Galaxy S5 comes with a premium looking brushed metal back cover which is somewhat similar to its previous Samsung ATIV S. Even the edges look more refined with a smooth surface without additional lines. Like any Samsung smart phones, we expect the back cover to be removable as well.
In terms of specs, the Galaxy F is alleged to have a bigger 5.2″ display that does a higher Quad-HD resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. Powering the device is said to be a newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and support for faster LTE up to 225Mbps.
Samsung is having a big launch next week but it is likely that they are launching the Galaxy F much later at a separate event. Now @Evleaks is speculating a September release which is quite close to the upcoming Galaxy Note 4 launch that’s happening in Q4. If all these chatter are true, this would definitely challenge the LG G3 in both specs and build quality.
The Z1T will be having a 5″ IPS display that does 1280×720 pixels resolution and runs on Qualcomm’s Quad-Core Snapdragon 400 processor that’s clocked at 1.2GHz and mated to 1GB of RAM. For storage, it gets 8GB on-board which can further expanded with microSD up to 32GB.
It also gets a 13MP main camera and a front facing 1.6MP unit. Powering the device is a 2,000mAh capacity battery and it runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box. For a mid-spec 5″ smart phone, the device is quite heavy at 164 grams but it maintains a slender 8.4mm thickness. That’s about 0.8mm thinner but 24 grams heavier than the Huawei Honor 3C.
It is expected to be priced below RM1,000 and currently they are running a price guessing contest on Facebook. What do you think it’s going to be? With more affordable 4G LTE smart phones like the HTC Desire 610 and Sony Xperia M2, price would definitely be a factor if Ninetology plans to catch the crowd. Who knows they might pull off something like the Honor 3C.

MTS is a Russian Telco which is actively pushing their 4G LTE connectivity. To promote its high speed service in the quickest way possible, they have worked together with a number of top Russian models and bloggers in what seems to be one of the quickest internet troll ever. They have gotten them to post a “special” picture with hot and suggestive hastags to pull in the crowd. The only thing though, is that the pictures never load.
Shortly after their followers are confused and wondering if it’s their internet connection, the models and bloggers posted a follow up video apologising for the slow “obstacale” which then revealed that it is an ad for MTS’s 4G LTE service. The campaign claimed to have reached out to 1.6 Million users which then extended to another 3 Million when the followers shared it on. Quite a clever way of using social as an advertising tool. Apart from this, MTS also has done an interesting Cinema campaign that demonstrates the speed of 4G with a movie ticket.

Apart from getting improved stability and fixes, the new update is said to have improved the overall camera performance of the Moto X in terms of exposure and better low light performance for the front camera. For recording videos, both Moto X and Moto G will be getting an additional pause button as well. Also new is Motorola Alert security app, which send periodic messages to selected contacts. The appears to be Motorola’s free alternative to the popular Watch Over Me app.
The update will roll out first for units that are purchased in the US and Brazil. For the rest of the world including Malaysia, it shouldn’t take too long for them to release it here. The cheap and cheerful Moto G is starting to looking outpriced and outspec’ed with the arrival of cheap smart phones in the market. Being a plain vanilla device, owners can still pride themselves of having faster access to the very latest Android versions.
