Nikon Android Camera

Nikon has officially announced the Coolpix S800c, which is Nikon’s first camera that’s running on Android 2.3 operating system. It comes with a 16.0MP back iluminated CMOS sensor and a 10X optical zoom NIKKOR lens with focal lengths between 25mm to 250mm. While it is natural to compare it with Nokia’s Pureview 808, the Nikon Coolpix S800c is not a phone as it doesn’t let you make calls or send SMS. Instead it comes with WiFi connectivity to connect and share content online.

On board it comes with 512MB of RAM, 4GB storage and it accepts SD/SDHC Memory card for expanded storage. Over at the back, there’s a 3.5″ OLED WVGA display with physical Android buttons. With a full blown OS running in the background, the Coolpix S800c battery life is estimated to take about 140 shots in normal mode with flash enabled. Price is listed as US$350 and it will be available in the US next month onwards. Having Android allows more flexibility with apps and games, but we reckon you won’t want to kill your camera’s battery life too quickly during vacation.

For more product details, head over to the S800c product page.

Head after the break for product photos and a hands-on video by Engadget.
