Samsung Galaxy S III won’t make an appearance at MWC

Posted:  February 1, 2012   By: soyacincau   9 comments

The anticipated Samsung Galaxy S III won’t be appearing anytime soon as Samsung has confirmed that it won’t be revealed at Mobile World Congress 2012. Here’s the statement straight from the horse’s mouth:

Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012.

The successor to the Galaxy S2 smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product.

Samsung stays committed to providing the best possible mobile experiences for customers around the world.

Last year, the Samsung Galaxy S II was revealed on 13 February, a day before MWC 2011. However it took about 4 months before it was officially available in Malaysia. In between the announcement and long awaited commercial availability, the Galaxy S II spec was upgraded from the initial dual core 1.0GHz to 1.2Ghz. It was a rather long wait back then and Samsung is now looking to reveal Galaxy S III closer to its commercial availability.

This also gives Samsung the opportunity to see what the competition are up to at MWC which gives them room to make changes. We all know that Samsung is well capable of making quick and drastic changes on its product line up as seen on the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab 10.1 & 8.9.

Hopefully by the time they release it sometime in the first half of 2012, Samsung would have a more compelling product. So for the time being, the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Note shall remain as the high end models for Samsung for another 4-5 months.

Cameras Compared: Galaxy Nexus vs Galaxy S II

Posted:  February 1, 2012   By: ccsoya   11 comments

The 8MP shooter on the Galaxy S II is one of the best cameras you can get on a mobile phone. Only the Galaxy Note and the iPhone 4S is better than the Galaxy S II, we can certainly vouch for that, but how does it compare with the 5MP camera on the Galaxy Nexus?

Android Central attempts to answer that question and pitted the two devices against each other. So which on is better?

Sorry to burst your bubbles Galaxy Nexus users, the camera on the Galaxy S II better in virtually every aspect, including detail, colour reproduction and noise management. With ICS coming the Galaxy S II within a few months, you can expect the camera to be even better with the possible inclusion of Zero Shutter Lag and other software enhancements.

How much better is the Galaxy S II compared to the Galaxy Nexus? You can read the full review here or you can head on over to after the jump to see test shots taken using the two devices.

Posted:  February 1, 2012   By: soyacincau   5 comments

Valentine’s day is coming on February 14th and Yes is running a special Valentine’s Day promotion for the month of February. They are offering a combo of a Yes 4G Mifi or home gateway that comes with a free USB modem and a chance to publicly declare your love on their big Yes LED Cube in front of Lot 10 on Valentine’s day.

For RM499, they are offering either Yes huddle MiFi or a Yes Zoom gateway which comes with 2x RM50 reloads. Looking at the details, they are giving RM30 free credit upon activation. On top of that, they will give RM60 loyalty credit for every 6 months within the 1 year subscription period they give RM60 if you stay with them for 6 months and they will give additional RM100 if you stay on further until 12 months. That makes the Yes huddle Mifi and Yes Zoom effectively RM249 if you stay with them for a year.

In the promo, they listed a total bundle of RM190 credit but from our calculation it is RM130 bundled credit upfront and additional RM120RM160 credit if you stay on for a year. Not sure if there’s any mistake but do clarify with them before signing up. In addition, they will also give a free Yes Go USB Modem with RM50 rebate credit for your loved one. Seriously, a USB stick as a Valentine’s Day gift? We rather you give the Yes Huddle Mifi as a gift instead.

Only those that purchase the Valentine combo will be entitled to submit their dedications online. The top 10 will be picked and shall be notified on February 13th, the day before the dedications go live on V-day. As extra goodies, they are also throwing additional prizes for the best top 3 submissions for the entire month. So if you want your message to be on the cube, you better do so before February 12th.

New BlackBerry London with BlackBerry 10 leaked

Posted:  February 1, 2012   By: soyacincau   No comments

For 2012, BlackBerry is banging on their new range of devices that run on their latest BlackBerry 10 OS. The upcoming BlackBerry London was earlier speculated to be their new flagship device which carries design features of the Porsche Design P’9881.

Just recently, BlackBerry’s 2012 product line up document was purportedly leaked and CrackBerry claims to have the latest details with the slide shown above. The London design now is different from what we saw earlier and resembles closely with a Motorola Droid X. We hope that this isn’t the final design as it sure looks dated right now.

In terms of specs, it is still rumoured to be running on dual-core 1.5GHz which is similar to the upcoming 3G+ BlackBerry Playbook with HSPA+ and NFC. If the specs are true, BlackBerry might have a fighting chance but let’s wait and see when it is launched officially.
