Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 launch late Jan/early Feb tentative

Posted:  January 13, 2012   By: ccsoya   29 comments

Update: Samsung says the price for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 will be less than RM2,500.

Samsung Malaysia in a reply to a question on Facebook has mentioned that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is slated to launch in Malaysia somewhere between late Jan to early Feb.

Details are still sketchy at the moment so don’t treat this as the final word from Samsung. In any case, many will just be happy to know that the Tab 7.7 is coming.

In terms of pricing, we can only guess at the moment but expect the device to go beyond the RM2k mark thanks to that 7.7-inch 1280×800 Super AMOLED Plus screen. It’s probably the largest Super AMOLED Plus display to date. So expect a premium on that but expect operators to come up with plans for the device as well.

As always, get the latest details about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and more awesome devices coming to Malaysia from SoyaCincau.com. Follow us on Twitter for the most up-to-date info always. Thanks!

Celcom officially reveals Samsung Galaxy Nexus plans

Posted:  January 13, 2012   By: soyacincau   7 comments

UPDATE: Celcom updates their Galaxy Nexus page, now offers early bird RM10 x 6 months promo discount. Now their Galaxy Nexus is showing 16GB instead of earlier 32GB. According to the T&C, the early bird promo is valid only for the first 300 subscribers.

Celcom has finally unveiled its Samsung Galaxy Nexus plans today with bundled device pricing from RM1,368 for consumer plans and RM1,348 for Biz plans. The plans are the same as the unconfirmed plan details posted last week. However there’s no mention of the RM60 extra rebates on Celcom website.

For consumer plans, you get a choice from monthly RM88 to RM250 commitment plans with 12 months and 18 months contract options. The highest commitment plan of Celcom Exec 250 at 18 months will let you pick up a Galaxy Nexus for RM1,368 while the lowest and shortest commitment of Celcom Exec 50 + Mobile Internet Basic of 12 months will let you have it for RM1,708. On BIZ Plans, you’ll have 2 monthly plan options at RM118 and RM150 but tied to a 24 months duration.

On Celcom, there’s an upfront payment between RM300 – 600 and this will be rebated back to your bill over 12 months period. For cancellation of contract midway, Celcom charges a penalty of RM500.

If you’re interested to find out the minimum ownership cost on Celcom compared to others, check out our Galaxy Nexus plan comparison. Since there’s no mention of the 6 months X RM10 promo, you might need to add RM60 into Celcom plans.

For more information, head over to Celcom’s Android page.

ASUS Transformer Prime RRP listed as RM2,199

Posted:  January 13, 2012   By: ccsoya   17 comments

UPDATE: The RM2,199 pricing is likely to be the WiFi version. Thanks CWK for highlighting.

ASUS Malaysia has mentioned that the Transformer Prime will launch in Malaysia before Chinese New Year (January 23) but they didn’t say how much it’s going to cost. If a price list from an IT reseller is anything to go by, ASUS might not have to say anything at all.

Commenter CWK alerted us on this price list available here (under the “laptop” section) and it appears that the Transformer Prime is going to sell for RM2,199 for the 32GB 3G WiFi version — the same price as the iPad 2 32GB 3G. As reference, the original Transformer has a RRP of RM1,799 for the 16GB WiFi-only version including the keyboard dock.

The list didn’t specifically indicate if the price includes the keyboard dock but it’s pretty much safe to assume that RM2,199 will get you the keyboard peripheral as well. Aside from that, we still don’t know if Malaysia will be getting the earlier TF201 or the recently announced TF700T. Realistically however, it’s an almost forgone conclusion that we will get the TF201. Also, could the existence of a 3G version of the Transformer Prime mean there will be an operator or two that are going to offers plans for it? We don’t know.

So, how’s the pricing for you? Attractive enough for you to grab one?

Thanks CWK for the tip!

Apple Store delivery time for iPhone 4S reduced to 3-5 working days

Posted:  January 13, 2012   By: ccsoya   3 comments

We just noticed that Apple Store Malaysia has reduced the delivery time of all iPhone 4S versions from 1-2 weeks about a month back to just 3-5 working days now. This is good news for those who want to get the iPhone 4S but don’t really want to be tied-up with a contract.

A quick check with operators and resellers revealed that there seems to be ample iPhone 4S stocks at the moment. You can walk into most DiGi, Maxis or Celcom outlets and walk out with an iPhone 4S on the spot. This was very different from 2010 when the iPhone 4 was launched, many will recall how difficult it was to get one from anywhere, this went on for a few months back then.

Things has indeed changed and we can think of two probabilities of why it is much easier to get the iPhone 4S than the iPhone 4 previously – 1) Supply is not an issue for Apple allowing operators and resellers to bring in more stock, or 2) Not many Malaysian are buying iPhones anymore. According to the people we spoke to, the latter seems to be the likely reason.

What do you think?
