In Malaysia, our high end smart phones are mostly in touch screen candy-bar form while flip/clam shell phones are long history. In China, things are a little different there and Samsung has introduced a new Android flip phone which comes with dual-core processor, dual sim slots and dual Super AMOLED screens. The device in question is Samsung’s W999 which is expected to go on sale in China in early 2012.

It runs on 1.2GHz dual-core processor, comes with 16GB internal storage and it is running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Normally flip phones are light and compact but the W999 weighs massive 206 grams. That’s even heavier than most QWERTY keyboard slider smart phones out there.

At the back, there’s a 5MP camera which supports 720p HD video shooting at 30 fps and the cover is said to be made out of Hydraskin texture plastic which is similar to the Samsung Galaxy S II. Juicing up the dual-screen device is a 1500mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, it supports both CDMA and GSM however 3G is limited to EVDO. This means you’ll get GPRS on GSM network.

Flip phones were trendy about 10 years ago with the likes of Motorola StarTAC/RAZR, Samsung A200 and Panasonic GD88. Just recently BlackBerry has also introduced a clamshell BlackBerry Style for CDMA networks in the US. What do you think if smart phone players could bring flip phones back in fashion again? Let us know in the comments below.

More photos after the break.
