Matias Duarte, the chief Android designer was on the first episode of The Verge show. During the show, he was asked about ICS Face Unlock feature which recently was proven to be unlocked with a photo.
His answer? Face Unlock on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is optimised for “common use cases”. He added that if someone kidnaps you, takes your face off and puts it on like John Woo’s Face Off Movie, it also could defeat Face Unlock. Basically it is just a small security measure to buy time for you to deactive and perform a remote wipe on your phone. For us, we prefer sticking to pattern unlock as our method of phone locking.
For those still having doubts on our face unlock video, someone by the name of Andrew McSweeney has repeated our unlocking test. He used the exact same set up, with a Galaxy Nexus which was programmed using his face and then unlocking it with a photo of himself on a Samsung Galaxy Note. Watch it after the break.
Tune Talk now offers a new way to stay connected for long without the hassle of monthly top ups. Tune Talk customers can get 365 days of credit validity for a small fee of RM38/year. This is good for those looking for a prepaid service with minimal monthly top up commitments.
To activate this, send SET to 1212. It costs RM38 but Tune Talk requires a minimum balance of RM48 before activation. Do note that the RM38 will be deducted as a fee and you won’t be getting any free talktime or SMS. With this 365 days validity activated, it will last exactly 1 year from the date of activation which will be confirmed by SMS. You can check for validity period by calling *133#.
There are other things to look out as well. Any top ups made within the 365 days period will not extend the existing validity period. If you are a heavy user and have been topping up regularly, this isn’t a solution for you. However those that just requiring a line for receiving calls or simply isn’t spending as much as a usual prepaid user, this 365 days validity is worth a try.
For more information, head over to TuneTalk.
The iPad with its glorious front glass may look sleek but careless mistakes such as dropping it can mess that precious gadget of yours in an instant. For maximum protection, there’s the G-Form extreme case which they have demonstrated an iPad surviving the impact of a dropping bowling bowl.
To take things to the next level, G-Form took it for a drop test at 1,300 feet with help of some skydivers. Watch it to believe. That’s one crazy protection sleeve. Head after the break for another test where they toss it out from a moving vehicle at 180KM/h.
The first reaction we got from you guys when we posted pictures of the white Galaxy Note was questions asking when is it coming to Malaysia. We asked Samsung Malaysia reps earlier but were told that it is not coming to Malaysia but it looks like they were just being cheeky.
Samsung Malaysia via its Facebook page has confirmed that the white Galaxy Note is coming and it will be in time for Christmas.
No pricing details have been revealed but we don’t expect the white Galaxy Note to cost more that the dark blue version.
So, will you postpone your Galaxy Note purchase for the white version?
Thanks @weisheatan for the tip
