When we told you that it is going to be a crazy final quarter, we weren’t joking. Just look at the number of devices that has been and will be launching in these last three months. You guys are really spoiled for choice across the board with a selection of devices from Samsung, Motorola, HTC and Sony Ericsson at various price points ranging from entry level to flagship. It sure is a good time to be a gadget junkie.
And the devices just keep on coming. Samsung has confirmed via its Facebook page that its full range of tablets will make it to Malaysia. You want the Galaxy Tab 8.9? It’s on sale in right now! Waiting for the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus? That’s coming too and according to Samsung it’s just a matter of weeks. How about the Galaxy Tab 7.7? No sweat, Samsung says that should be available before the end of the year.
Right now the full details (in final pricing and exact launch dates) of the Galaxy tab 7 Plus and the Galaxy Tab 7.7 are not available but we’re pretty sure things will start surfacing as we approach closer to launch day. Considering that both these devices can function as a phone, we’re expecting a telco tie-up to be on the cards.
In the meantime, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is now selling for RM1,699 for the WiFi version and it brings everything you like in the Galaxy Tab 10.1 but in a more compact package.
Update: Twitter follower @najibhhh correctly pointed out that at RM1,699, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is more expensive than the Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi which retails for RM1,499. Now, why would a smaller device with a smaller screen (which means it costs less) is more expensive is beyond us. Surely both the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 offer the same level of mobility. Would you pay extra for a smaller device with exactly the same features as the Galaxy Tab 10.1?
Update 2: We’ve gotten information from @betadotmy via Twitter that the RM1,699 price for the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is for the WiFi+3G version and not the WiFi only version as we earlier thought. Samsung Malaysia confirms this here. Still, if you’re wondering, the 3G+WiFi version doesn’t do voice calls (excluding third-party apps like Skype etc). However you can send and receive SMS and MMS. What is unconfirmed is that the WiFi version of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is also available and it retails for RM1,299. We’ll try to get more details on that.
Which one would you get?
Samsung better get their act together. Recent news about Asus Transformer Prime tablet puts every tablets out there to shame.
i dun understand. the tablet is same?
" at RM1,699, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is more expensive than the Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi which retails for RM1,499 "
Galaxy note is Rm2.2k something , so obviously smaller is more expensive .
but hey how about HTC Jetstream ? any news?
why smaller more expensive? i think bigger got more part ma
i would think that it's mainly contributed LCD size. 10.1" is standard part, compared to 8.9".
In manufacturing supply chain world, it should be cheaper to get 10.1" LCD than 8.9", when it comes to bulk purchase
Note has better cpu, better screen and its thinner. Tab 8.9 is the same as 10.1 except for smaller battery. So if you take all into consideration, 10.1 is better.
I have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 for a few months. It is a pretty decent device, but it is a touch 'laggy' because of Samsung's pre-installed widgets (malware??). I wasn't a fan of Samsung devices, and after buying the Tab 10.1, I still have reservation buying another Samsung device. They don't polish their products enough.
I have my eye on the Asus Transformer Prime. That would be a device we all should be looking forward too.
the trick to get a smooth slide between pages is to use normal wallpaper, not the heavy ones like the aurora theme. I just changed it and it works wonder. My tab is not rooted of any kind yet.
The only complain so far is the time taken to fully charge the battery. damn annoying man.
now i think i should get a ipad2 instead.
This is not Samsung fault. Most part of Honeycomb is not hardware accelerated and is still buggy. Wait for ICS.
But for me, all this Samsung device is outdated with Asus Transformer Prime. Sorry Samsung.
RM1,699 for 8.9. is it 16gb or 32 gb?
If only Asus come with a 7" Tegra 3 slate…then I'd have a clear choice..
asus tablet tarak 3g. itu sedih
where is the 4G tablet? banyak publicity last year when launching but 1 year of quiet regarding device. i want damnit!
Already have the Tab 10.1, but its too big for me. Now waiting for the Tab 7.7, then will decide between the 7.7 or Note
the specifications for galaxy tab 7.7 seems to be good…
