Apple recently announced pre-orders of its iPhone 4S have topped one million in a single day. This number surpassed the previous single day pre-order record of 600,000 held by the iPhone 4. But what does it all mean?
Numbers without perspective are just merely that – numbers. While it is undeniable that 1 million units of almost anything is a significant amount, most of the reports did not place the Apple’s reported figure in a bigger perspective. So let’s look behind the numbers and see what 1 million iPhone 4S pre-ordered actually mean.

U Mobile Phone bundling with new “other” postpaid plans
Last week, U Mobile has introduced a new series “other” postpaid plans which offers primarily data with a sprinkle of free calls and SMS – depending which plan you’re on. Now they have started offering phone bundling with the HTC Wildfire, HTC Desire S & Samsung Galaxy S II on their U28, U58 and U88 plans.
In terms of offer, with a 24 months contract of U88, you can get the Wildfire for RM663, the Desire S for RM1213 and the Galaxy S II for RM1613. The subsidy amount is very little for a 24 months contract. As comparison, the Galaxy S II is offered at RM1499 with 18 months contract of U Value prepaid of RM68/month.

Purported Samsung Galaxy S III specifications leaked
The Samsung Galaxy S II is currently enjoying its standing as the most desirable Android smart phone today. However more Android devices are expected to launched soon with higher resolution screens and faster processors. To stay ahead of the game, Samsung is already working on its next Galaxy S device and the purported specifications have been leaked from what appears to be an internal presentation.
According to the picture above, the upcoming Galaxy S III will be getting a dual-core 1.8GHz Exynos processor, 2GB of RAM and a 4.6″ Super AMOLED Plus HD Screen. The HD screen might be something similar to the Galaxy Note but with higher pixel density on a smaller 4.6″. In terms of camera, it is 12MP with f/2.3 aperture.
Like most rumours, it is far from the real deal at this early stage. Previously the Galaxy S II was rumoured to have a 720HD display and 2GHz processor which never materialised. However closer to launch, more realistic specs had began to appear. For the upcoming Galaxy S III, we expect to see something better than just a mere dual-core 1.8GHz processor.
