HTC Malaysia has announced the official pricing for its female-centric Android smartphone , the HTC Rhyme.
The HTC Rhyme features a 3.7-inch 800×480 WVGA Super LCD display, a 5MP main camera with LED and a 1Ghz single-core processor with 768MB of RAM. Along with that, you get Android 2.3 Gingerbread and the latest HTC Sense 3.5 UI skin on top.
In addition, the HTC Rhyme also comes complete with a wireless light-up “charm” that glows to notify owners of incoming calls and messages. Malaysian buyers will get this along with the HTC Rhyme Docking Station and HTC Rhyme Tangle Free Headphones.
The HTC Rhyme retails for RM 1,699 and is expected to be in stores by end October 2011.
Specs-wise, the HTC Rhyme brings nothing new but the emphasis on creating a device designed primarily for women can serve as an attractive selling point when there’s really nothing much separating one Android device from another.
However, it looks like HTC Malaysia is trying to bring the femininity of the Rhyme a few notches down because where in other markets the Rhyme comes in a girly purple hue called “Plum”, in Malaysia, you get a drab grey colour that HTC is calling “Clearwater”. A few of our lady readers were excited with the plum colour when we first reported about the Rhyme, now they’ll just be plum disappointed. Are we right ladies?

Sony Ericsson Malaysia has announced the official pricing for two of its latest devices the Xperia arc S and the Xperia active.
Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S
The Xperia arc S brings all the goodness of the Xperia arc but with the addition of a faster 1.4GHz single-core Qualcomm MSM8255 processor as opposed to the 1GHz unit in the Xperia arc.
According to Sony Ericsson, the extra 400MHz offers 25% faster camera start-up and 20% faster web page rendering over its original arc model. Also new to the arc S is a 3D Sweep Panorama feature that converts 2D images to 3D that you can view on a 3D TV.
The Xperia arc S runs on the latest Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread OS and is available now for RM1,899 in three colours – Pure White, Gloss Black and Pink. The Xperia arc S comes bundled with the following accessories worth RM429:
Sony Ericsson Xperia active
The Xperia active is Sony Ericsson’s first robust Android smartphone. The IP67-rated Xperia Active is water and dust resistant (in fresh water up to a depth of 1 metre, immersed for 30minutes) and comes with a technology Sony Ericsson calls wet finger tracking, allowing the screen to recognise finger gestures even if your digits are wet.
The Xperia active also packs a barometer, pedometer and pulse meter. The 3-inch 320×480 Reality Display on the Xperia active is enhanced with Sony’s Bravia Mobile Engine and is strengthened with Dragontrail — a product similar Corning’s Gorilla Glass. You also get a 5MP camera that shoots 720p HD videos and a 1200mAh battery.
The Xperia active retails for RM1,159 which is not far off from our earlier estimate of RM1,216 based on the earlier Singapore launch. The device comes in two colour schemes – Orange band with black back cover and white band with black back cover. Both colour schemes come with an extra white cover. At the moment Sony Ericsson is bundling the Xperia active with the Sony Ericsson LiveView Bluetooth display worth RM288. That’s a pretty good deal
