Dell discontinues Streak 5 tablet

The Dell Streak that was launched a year ago was one of the most anticipated Android devices to enter the market last year. Unfortunately local launch delays and expensive pricing had hindered its success in Malaysia.

Earlier this week, Dell has officially announced that the Dell Streak 5 has been discontinued, leaving behind its 7 incher Dell Streak 7 as their sole Android tablet right now. In Malaysia, Maxis is the only telco offering the Dell Streak 5 and outright it is still offered at RM2099, which is RM500 more than the Galaxy Tab 7 or the same price as a 4.3″ Samsung Galaxy S II. On contract, it is offered as low as RM999 over 24 months contract with minimum 1.5GB data plan on Maxis.

The Streak could have been the first tablet to hit Malaysia but each delay had made it less appealing. Even now, the price is still ridiculously high. Maxis and Dell should relook into its dated pricing as there are other cheaper and better alternatives in the market today.

I love my Dell Streak 5…

Every time I look at a different phone, they just seem so small! I love my brick. I can see sooo many icons on the page and I use it as an e-reader as well!

Hopefully they bring out something similar but better in the future, just about the time I need to upgrade!

I guess lala's small girly hands couldn't handle holding a Streak.

Stick with your iphone mate. you and all the other lookalike dorks out there with iphones who think they're individuals.
