Motorola Atrix launched in Malaysia at RM1999

The Motorola Atrix, one of the earliest anticipated Android device to feature a dual-core 1GHz processor and high resolution display is finally here in Malaysia. That’s nearly a 6 months wait since its first announcement in January this year. We’ve even mentioned that the Motorola Atrix was the best smart phone at the start of the new year.

The Motorola Atrix is priced at RM1999 which was tweeted by sapiensbryan at the launch event. This is actually the same price as the HTC Incredible S which we reviewed earlier. But what you’ll get is a dual-core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, a 4.0″ qHD 960×540 display and massive 1930mAh battery.

That’s not all, there’s also a Lapdock that transforms the Atrix smart phone to offer a laptop like experience. Such functionality however comes with a hefty price. At RM1399, the lapdock itself is priced pretty close to a tablet like the iPad 2 or ASUS Eee Pad Transformer at RM1499 range.

There’s a cheaper multimedia dock at RM439, which you can connect to your HD TV via HDMI. It also allows you to connect a USB keyboard and mouse as well. You can check out the pic of the dock taken at the launch here.

It is a pity that the Motorola Atrix took this long to make it to Malaysia. Had it launched long before Samsung and HTC announced their flagship devices, the Atrix could have landed onto more hands of Malaysians. With the Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation boasting higher processing power and running the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the Atrix will have a tough challenge ahead. The Atrix will be available only on Android 2.2 Froyo and Gingerbread upgrade is said to be on the way but without any definitive dates.

To know more about this device, read our previous post here which contains a couple of videos of the Atrix including the Lapdock/Webtop.
