UPDATE: Gingerbread is still coming to HTC Desire! Read more here.
Some bad news for HTC Desire users. Earlier on the HTC Desire was expected to be officially upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Today HTC had broke the news that it won’t be happening at all.
According to their UK Facebook page, there’s simply not enough memory to deliver both Gingerbread and their latest Sense UI together. They explored all possibility to maintain the HTC Sense experience but had finally gave up due to technical constraints. Of course, for those who are adventurous can still find a way of getting Gingerbread update through unofficial channels. Hint: XDA Forums.
We also wonder how is Sony Ericsson doing with their Xperia X10 Gingerbread update. It should be available anytime now.

Thats weird??@@ … i just sent my HTC DESIRE for repair 2 change motherboard… and they say its upgradeable to 2.3.. so when i get it back.. it will be 2.3 ? but after reading this .. im confused… :S
what the heck ?! one of the htc flahship mobile phone cant get gingerbread …. htc should hire new programmers
damn.. i'm waiting for this… htc just give me a solid reason not to but any htc android anymore.. why cant do gingerbread with current htc sense? programmer not creative enough eh?
Am currently using HTC Desire on Gingervillain custom rom (Gingerbread 2.3.3)
its so sad about this. To be frank, i am using Samsung GS and updated to 2.3 official one. This update was soooo smooth and fast compare to 2.2. Its make my GS like a brand new one.
agreeed. upgrading to 2.3 was a big difference. i never experienced anymore lag in the DHD ever since the update. feeling sad for Desire users. But will this happen to DHD too soon in the future for 2.4? damn
Felt betrayed. Already infamous for their lousy battery, erratic clock, exorbitant pricing, and stingy memory, now HTC tells us that we can't OTA 2.3 due cuz we paid a hgh price for a device that should not have been released with such miserable internal ram. Samsung is more generous with their memories, better hardware and even with their updates.
Glad I didn't buy their Sensation or Flyer a few days ago. What's to prevent them from telling me that the Flyer can't upgrade to HoneyComb due to some stupid lackings. Think I'll wait for Asus meMo Pad of the PadFone. At least I know they're value for money.
Now my white Desire is another White Elephant…. Not buying HTC anymore.
I heard from the Samsung people said that the Ace and some other low-end devises will be upgradable to 2.3 too
lol,
i'm so sure my iphone 3gs is going to be able to upgrade to ios5. lol, thats htc android for you!!!!!
becos you are buying 1 of hundreds android phone releasing every year.
while i'm having the ONLY phone Apple Released in ONE WHOLE YEAR!! lol,
guys, its not too late, wait for iphone5, you will not be left out, and there will be tonnes of accessories(including fake) for you!!! and you look cool too!!!
hahahaha Apple??? IOS 5..HAHAHAHA NO COOL BRO
Apple ?! So boring and poor devise where ONLY one model can let you choose (have to say choose but actually no choice).
if its the best ,you only need 1.
if without iphone, there will be no android system, lol. talk about innovative? no steve job, no personal computer!
yes, i'm a fanboy, but, yea, again, no steve job, no pc.
kesian for you
how can say best when got BT but can't BT files out of the box? got FF camera but cannot 3g video calls out of the box.
like that call best? my SE K618i can do this and its more than 5yrs old leh. best 10yrs ago isit?
and again… have to say… i think got steve jobs or not… PC would still be around. in fact, need to thank bill gates for keeping apple alive.
no, i'm not shooting down fan boy, but just stating what i understand to be correct. if anything, there must be a good reason why ipad and iphone is selling so well. but it does not mean its the best. proton sells more than ferrari in MY. does that mean proton is the best?
so you can keep your SE K618i.
yea, u should go watch youtube, search steve jobs stanford speech, you're gonna learn a lot.
ya, listen to that speech… and then the 7 habits… then the rich dad… followed by how to win friends…
do you even know what i was replying to earlier on? please read my reply as a whole and not just by itself.
nolar… they got to choose really hard. got black… got white. very tough decision… lolz…
yea, because iphone user has better things to do,like make more money, or spend time with family, instead of keeps on rooting the rom, hacking the phone, making yourself a developer so you can use your rm1500 – rm2000 phone. lol.
iphone, is a 1 stop solution, they do everything for you, of course because you paid for an rm2500 phone, they dont need you to get your hands dirty.
if i wanna buy some premium sportscar, i would like to choose the interior color only, i dont want to know what exhaust i wanna use, what intake manifold i wanna use, what airfilter i wanna use, you just give me the best, and i'll choose the color.
you wanna a normal ferarri ? 430, you wan to race on a track? 430 scuderia.
well, its different if you're a tuner that likes to get your hands dirty.
anyway, better competition is always good. and i always fancy a bigger screen
we can always have android and apple product in one house, tablets, phones, mp3 players lol
Let me amend you something….
For many of the the Android users very rare to go for the rooting, because once we got the phone we can straight away use all functions, features inside the phone.
Where the other way round, the iPhone users once they got the phone, they are busy to go for the jail break and etc….one of the reason is they can't use bluetooth to share file, photos, songs, movies…….and also They always need to convert…convert…convert….and convert…..haizzz
Definitely not going for CLOSED SYSTEM smartphones. As for iOS5, it stole so many of Android features and now calling them iPhone's originals.
Btw, your 3GS should be due for a "battery-conked" very soon. Better backup your private data soon, b4 u hand in ur 3GS for a battery replacement. And some repair expenses, too. And as for a full iOS5, forget it for ur 3GS, it's a scaled-down. 3GS hardware specs just not up to current stds.
iOS stole features? lol
No iOS, no androids ok?
you're definitely stuck with SE and Nokia symbian is there is no APPLE IPHONE In this world.
wait, you still have dopod, and….motorola….and what else…..hem…….play games on your phone? you mean snake? , hahahahahahahaha
thanks to steve jobs, we have better handphone to use, i can give iphone to any normal 8years old kid and he can operate it instantly, try give android to 8 years old, and see if he knows how to use.
apple leads, everyone follows!!! ipad is second generation while the rest are still thinking which screen size to make, and ipad is the cheapest of all!!!! imagine that…..best and cheapest!!!
ok, i'm a little high now, i got to crash, have a nice day, good night!

It seems like they have changed their mind. <3 HTC for listening to their customers
maybe tomorrow, maybe next year, lol.
I think i read in engadget that the problem faced by HTC is there are simply not enough memory to run Sense on desire.
Its logical becase Sense DO eat up A LOT of phone memory.
Well there are many custom rom for desire its the best alternative IMHO. Flashing ROM has been easier by the day and there are one click rooting app without requiring much knowledge.
This is one thing that justify no vendor should lock their bootloader.
Because when even the manufacturer f**ked up their update you can always rely on the community.

I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting my own weblog and was wondering what all is needed to get set up? I'm assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I'm not very web smart so I'm not 100% certain. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kudos
THis is sad! …sob…
