Yes has released their yes life app for ios devices namely iPod touches, iPhones and iPads. This expands its telephony voice and SMS service beyond the desktop. Earlier on, @jonrulezz had spotted the app in the wild but it was taken down shortly after.
Immediately we can see some benefits to this. Now you can take your yes 018 number with you together with your existing iPhone. Its rate of 9 sen/minute nationwide is among the cheapest of all telcos in Malaysia and this can help reduce your monthly bills on calls. For those that travel overseas, this allows you to stay connected and make calls at local rates. All you need is Internet connection be it WiFi or 3G.
As an introductory offer, they are giving a Free 14 days trial of Yes Life with RM5 credit. If you have been purchasing Yes Valuepacks with heaps of bundled minutes and SMS remaining, this makes it easier for you to utilise them.
Our next question will be, when are they releasing it for other OS such as Android and Blackberry?
For more information, head to yes life’s microsite here. To download, head to the iTunes download link here.
just downloaded the app on my iPad and its fantastic! calls are cheap and clear, best of all people can call me and i get free calls and SMS from my 68 valuepack
+ my bro can use it calling home from australia
well done yes, and please keep innovating! its not just the amazing speeds anymore!
went to yes store purchase their starterpack… and no need to be a ipad from them…. voice quality is superb….
are you buying RM100 starter pack or this RM450 starter pack that custom made for ipad? please advice.
It is a great app. By registering a Yes ID using this app, we are able to get a Yes ID of our choice and 018 number with a free RM5 credit preloaded.
What I wonder is, why if we want to register the Yes ID alone, we have to pay the activation fee. But using this app, it seems that it is free (I did call the yes careline just now to ask about this). So, isn't it wise and save your rm50 to register the yes id using this app rather than register yes id on their website which we have to pay to get it activated?
A lot of positive comments from users…? I doubt if they are genuine, more likely from those working for YES. As noble as the idea is, it would be ridiculous to pay for my existing mobile line and also for YES credit. It will only make sense if I am an existing YES subscriber. I also don't envision myself carrying an Ipad, YES Huddle and a headset at the same time.
You dont need to use yes ma. Celcom also can I got try becoz yes coverage not so good yet but really amazing for calling my sister overseas because you don't need another phone any data on iPhone also can
Go n try
If you just want to make Yes call, you just need the app and can use with your maxis/celcom/digi 3G. Don't have to buy the device. Just treat it as Skype + call credit.
But make sure got unlimited plan.
How about android? Not everyone using iOS
When I used Yes Life on UNIFI (5mbps) on Windows platform, quality of voice( the other party can not hear me clearly) not as good as if I used it via Yes wimax radio. This is strange as the latency on my UNIFI is very good (below 50ms)
Yes' 4G network has in built QOS (Quality of service) for voice calls, so apps like Yes Life and Skype will work much better. Latency is one thing but Unifi is not designed to carry voice specifically on purpose or else TM's fixed line business will die..
At least Yes gives us innovation and choice!
It's not the locals who will benefit greatly from this. It's all the students in Australia, US and UK with unlimited data plans who now can make and receive calls to and from Malaysia at 9 sen.
And not just students, think about all the businessmen and corporate people. Wow. Can't wait for it to be on Android.
Android devices will get the app within approximately 8 weeks. Followed by a phone launching based on the Android OS as well.
It's already 11 weeks since u said 8 weeks ago… i'm hoping for yes life for android too… dang… so long the wait
it's gonna be on android and bb in couple of months, the best if the android 4g phone comes
[...] Yes had launched its Yes Life app for iOS devices. In just a day, it became the Top Free app in App Store Malaysia. [...]
Tried Yes Life on my iPhone4… totally sucks. The program will log off once the 3G is out of coverage, but will not re-logon back to Yes Life network… so once you're moved in and out of 3G coverage, then your 018 number will not be contactable.
Voice quality is good, but again it depends on the 3G / wifi signal strength..
Cost is really low… 9cents is low, but skype is free…
The only good thing i can think of is you can choose 'beautiful' numbers, and keep the line activated as your additional phone number. Never depend on Yes Life as your main line!
I travel overseas quite often & I use YesLife to contact my family & office at 9 sen/min. MUCH cheaper than roaming! I call to Msian fixed or mobile number oso 9 sen/min. Call quality depends on wireless quality where I originate call (i.e. UK) – generally excellent.
Other way also can. Family can contact me at 9 sen/min too provided they use YesLife. They can call my 018 number (stored on YesLife app in my iPhone) or UK fixed line – both oso 9 sen/min. If call UK mobile number won't be 9 sen!
Is different story in developing countries. Quality of calls from airport/hotel wifi is generally acceptable.
can i ask, YES work with ipad wifi version or not?
I am not a Yes user, I didn't subscribe to any of their service. It came to my attention when I learn about this application from iTunes. I check on the terms and conditions on the Yes Life iOS 14-day Trial with my iPad. The T&C stated clearly that my account will be terminated if I do not reload after the trial period. I've tried the service but found that it doesn't make sense to use Yes Life to replace my existing Maxis line. Upon the expiry, I did not reload and continue the service. Then, I found they charge me for not meeting the minimum monthly usage. I was like WHAT??? It's not even stated in the T&C. And terminating account will be automatic if the account is inactive for 180 days. By that time, I wonder how much they will charge me for the outstanding balance. Any one has encountered this? Care to share with me how did you get them to terminate your account?
It's not an actual charge but rather the way the billing system works. It just produces a negative value to stop usage, but you don't have to pay if you don't wish to continue as it is a pre paid system

When it will be available for the android?
just called yes careline and ask regarding this starter pack, according to them, need to purchase ipad from those apple reseller only entitle to purchase the starter pack. even their own yes flagship store not eligible to purchase. so weird.
if really want to make the campaign success, they should open for other mac fans like me(i purchased my ipad online) and public too~ right?
