Pimp up your iPad with custom colours

Posted:  April 12, 2010   By: ccsoya   1 comment

The problem with the iPad is…you can have it in any colour you like so long as it’s brushed aluminium. Soon, everyone is going to have one and you’d want to be able to stand out from the pad crowd.

The people at ColorWare have just the thing for you. Starting from US$410 you can pimp up your iPad to virtually any colour and finish you like. You can customise the aluminium backplate, the Apple logo colour and event the colour of the home button of your iPad to your fancy. There are even two types of finish to choose from – soft touch or gloss.

Considering a 16GB iPad cost US$499, paying close to its retail price just to have it painted is a tad bit
extravagant if you ask us.

Anyways…how do you like our Lotus Racing F1 inspired iPad? We think, Tony Fernandes would be so proud holding one at his team’s paddock.

Don’t have an iPad but still have the urge to pimp? From gaming consoles to mobile phones, ColorWare can custom colour loads of other gadgets too.

Check out the short promo video after the jump.

SPOTTED! iPad grey import in Low Yat

Posted:  April 12, 2010   By: ccsoya   12 comments

Over the weekend, while taking a stroll at Low Yat, we spotted an iPad on display amongst the many small kiosks there.

Our excitement got the better of us and we enquired as to how much would it cost for us to be able to take one home with us.

“RM2800″ blurted the uninterested sales guy. The version in question is a baseline 16GB WiFi that retails for US$499.

You don’t have to be a math genuis to know that RM2800 does not equate to US$499. In fact, at the current exchange rate, US$499 is about RM1600. That’s a hefty RM1200 margin, the rude dude at Low Yat is getting for his iPad. You could almost get two iPads for the price the fella is asking.

RM2800 for the privilege of owning an iPad before everyone else is not worth it if you ask us. Might as well save your cash and wait for end April for the official global launch of the iPad.

FYi, we also saw a couple of Nexus Ones on display at the same shop. Didn’t ask how much it cost though.

Clues point to iChat, forward facing camera and flash on iPhone HD

Posted:  April 12, 2010   By: ccsoya   No comments

As developers are getting their hands on the the iPhone OS 4.0, some have uncovered what could be clues that point to the possibility of iChat, forward facing camera and flash making it to the upcoming iPhone HD.

Like all rumours of this sort, there is no way to confirm or deny it and the existance of such features could very well be for something else entirely.

Having said that, the guys at MobileCrunch have put up a compeling theory of as to what the clues could actually mean.

In addition, Engadget have also discovered processes in the iPhone OS 4.0 SDK that points to the possibility of some sort of flash and torchlight function.

All this is nothing new in the mobile world, so why are we all getting worked up when Apple puts it on an iPhone?

Apple coming late into the game could very well mean one thing – a game changing execution and implementation of a traditional application. In this case, video calls.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed.

iPad international launch end April says Jobs.

Posted:  April 12, 2010   By: ccsoya   2 comments

You’d better save your money…the iPad is going global.

During the iPhone 4.0 unveiling, Jobs was queried by one of the attendees on whether the international debut of the iPad will be affected given that there is a strong demand for the device in the US.

Jobs’ asnwer was simple, straight forward and crsytal clear:
“No. It’ll still be near the end of April, like we said“.

Very reassuring indeed. That’s just a couple of weeks from now and we can’t wait.

In the meantime, if you can’t wait that long, you might want to consider making your very own iPad. Or if you really want, there are services available that can arrange for you to purchase an iPad direct from the US.
