No waiting for iPhone says DiGi D’Chat

Posted:  April 2, 2010   By: oyasc   No comments

Those who’ve pre-ordered their iPhone from DiGi will be able to collect it this Saturday. One of the major complaints that we’ve been hearing is that it takes ages for anyone to get a 3GS from Maxis. We sent an email to the Corp Comms people of Maxis to find out if this is true or not but they didn’t respond, so we’ll just have to rely on the word on the street.

We don’t know if long waiting periods are still an issue at Maxis but what we do know is that if you order your iPhone from DiGi. You don’t have to wait…well..not that long at least.

We had a quick chat with one of DiGi’s customer service people via D’Chat and we were told that pre-order units that are not collected will go to the next guy that wants it and is willing to pay for it. Which means any dude who walks up to the DiGi counter in One Utama (we believe) should be able to get an iPhone there and then without pre-booking.

We were also told via D’Chat that DiGi has ordered quite a number of the iPhones to meet demand. D’Chat also said that if you order your iPhone from DiGi and they didn’t have stock, you only have to wait for around seven days to get one as opposed to 30 to 40 days or longer with Maxis.

So, if you’re in a hurry to get an iPhone, you know where to go to and let us know if this is indeed true.

Hold your horses people, the iPad in question is not for sale. It is in fact the top prize for a movie contest that Hotlink is running. It’s no piddly, low-end 16GB either, Hotlink is giving away the almost top of the line 64GB version.

More details HERE.

Best of all, Maxis subscribers can have a whack at the iPad too (that means Maxis subs can also participate in the contest).

Good luck to you sir!

Maxis sponsors Lotus Racing complete with full iPhone app

Posted:  April 2, 2010   By: soyacincau   2 comments

Maxis is kicking off its Lotus Racing sponsorship with an online promo. Previously, Maxis CEO Sandip Das has said that Maxis is committed to bring F1 updates to mobile users and they’re doing just that with a suite of content services.

Maxis will serve exclusive Lotus Racing content via its MyLaunchPad website which gives fans up to date information on Lotus Racing’s news and updates.

Coming soon is the Lotus Racing iPhone app which keeps you updated with live feeds, commentaries, team standings and almost everything you want to know about the team. Also coming soon to the Maxis website is collection of exclusive Lotus Racing videos.

No sponsorship would be complete without some sort of contests. So, as official sponsors, Maxis will be running a couple of contests and exclusive SMS update services as well. Get everything you need to know at the Maxis Lotus Racing promo page HERE.

What we’d like to see is some exclusive discounts for Maxis customers on official Lotus Racing merchandise. That would be awesome.

It’s no biggie but hey, its something.

To celebrate iPhone 3GS first anniversary coming to Malaysia, Maxis is taking RM200 off all iPhone prices if you signup with their iValue plan.

Offer is valid all the way to April 20. It’s not really much of an iDiGi counter if you ask us, really.

Is Google playing an April Fools prank or is it just us?

Posted:  April 2, 2010   By: ccsoya   6 comments

Its a typical late night blogging for us here at SoyaCincau. Whilst about to log in into our Gmail accounts we noticed something weird with the login page.

Google playing an April Fools prank or are we just plain tired?

Anyone else seeing this?

Update (00:07): Apparently it’s not a prank and a serious “vowel outtage“.

Google blog says: At 6:01 am Pacific Time, during routine maintenance at one of our datacenters, the frontend web servers in that particular datacenter started failing to render the letter ‘a’ for a subset of users. As error rates escalated, the strain spread to other datacenters. We worked quickly to avoid a cascading failure of the entire alphabet by implementing a stopgap solution that limited the damage to the letters ‘a,’ ‘e,’ ‘i,’ ‘o,’ and ‘u.’ As a result, we’re experiencing Gmail’s first temporary vowel outage. (We’re still investigating whether the letter ‘y’ is impacted and will post an update here shortly.)

Very interesting. Let’s see how this unfolds.

Update (02:53): The “vowel outage” could very well be true. Google had already pranked everyone with the Topeka thing.

Update (09:05): Yes, it’s a prank. We’ve all been had.
