The Blackberry offers are often associated with Maxis & Celcom. Now there’s a 3rd player that is bringing it in for Enterprise users.

Now DiGi Business offers the Blackberry Bold 9000 for RM1,399 and Blackberry Curve 8900 for RM999. The bundle price is for 24 months contract on either BIZ 150 and BIZ 250 plans. They are also throwing in the Blackberry Internet service with unlimited data for RM63/month. However we don’t see any signs of the Storm with DiGi.

  • P1 vs AMAX Klang Valley Coverage Comparison

Posted on June 4th, 2009 soyacincau No comments

It has been nearly a year since the WiMAX players had launched their commercial service and coverage has always been the main concern of consumers today. MCMC even aims WiMAX operators to target 25% of Malaysia population by end of this year. That’s 6.75 million people to cover.

So how are our WiMAX operators doing? P1 and AMAX so far are the only operators who published their coverage areas online. Compare the Klang Valley coverage below:

    amaxcoverage

These screenshots are obtained today 4th June 2009. As shown above, P1 has been expanding aggressively in the Klang Valley. Meanwhile AMAX too is also expanding by patches and we can see that there are several new spots  in Cheras updated recently.

P1 is currently the most visible WiMAX player and the coverage availability is quite extensive as shown above. If they keep this up, the 25% target could be achieved by year end.

No coverage details are available for YTL and RedTone at the moment although RedTone has started showing some WiMAX packages recently.

  • Celcom turns to airport cabs to sell prepaid broadband

Posted on June 3rd, 2009 soyacincau 2 comments

As mobile broadband war heats up, Celcom is targeting a niche segment of foreigners with the help of Airport Limo cabs. Its CMO Chee Pok Jin said Celcom is spending under RM1 million to introduce this new service over the next 6 months and targets to acquire 400 customers per day.

Their strategy is simple, to target foreigners who often had to pay premium at hotels for internet access. With Celcom Prepaid, this would be a cheaper choice for foreigners.

During the campaign period, it is understood that the Airport Limo taxi drivers will act as ambassador for the travelers by answering queries and questions on Celcom Prepaid. We’re wondering if the taxi drivers are well trained for such a task but probably Celcom would bundle a product/FAQ kit that is easy for first time users to understand in various languages.

Another thing that we noticed is that registration is not required.

Dubbed “Celcom Mobile Broadband Airport Limousine”, it offers a ready-to-use mobile broadband package without the need for customer registration in collaboration with Airport Limo (M) Sdn Bhd, which operates taxi services to and from the airport.

Last we recalled, all prepaid sold in Malaysia must be registered with supporting ID or passport. Suddenly it appears that prepaid for broadband is spared from such ruling.

  • Maxis accepts trade-in of your old iPhone

Posted on June 3rd, 2009 soyacincau 1 comment

maxis_iphonetradeinIf you have the 1st gen Apple iPhone, now could be a good chance for you to step up to the new iPhone 3G as Maxis is now accepting trade-ins.

We spotted this on their website and you could get up to RM1050 off when you trade-in at their Maxis Centres or dealers except LCCT and Langkawi.

The terms and condition for this trade-in is not available on the website and we’re wondering how does this trade-in work considering that 1st gen iPhones are not officially launched in Malaysia.
