Update: Reminder, this 50% off offer is for DiGi prepaid customers from 7.00AM-7.00PM, Thursday 28th May 2009. IDD and special numbers are NOT applicable. Read the FAQ here.

According to The Star report, DiGi prepaid customers are facing problems yesterday morning. DiGi acknowledges such problem and they are taking it seriously.
Instead of being in “denial mode” like typical telcos, DiGi is taking an extra effort to give back to the customers.
This Thursday, DiGi is offering 50% off on all calls by its prepaid customers from 7.00AM to 7.00PM.
“I take this extremely seriously. Our customers have an expectation to be always on and I am disappointed that they have been inconvenienced, and for that I apologise,” said DiGi chief executive officer Johan Dennelind.
A big thumbs up for DiGi! Other Telcos take note!

DiGi has introduced its new DG30 Postpaid plan which is targetted for those who wish to save. This replaces DG20 which was their previous lowest DiGi postpaid plan. DG20 was previously a subscription based plan whereby RM20 is charged for access fee and call usage are charged separately. Now with DG30, the RM30/month is actually commitment that you can use.

With all MNP going on, it is hard to keep track which network your contacts are using. This becomes a headache if you manage a list of favorite number that is only applicable for those on the same network. Rates are also a concern especially if you’re wondering if the number you call is on-net or off-net.
Maxis & DiGi has launched an MNP Number Check service which is offered for FREE!
Maxis

For Maxis users, just send “CHECK <Mobile Number>” to 22011. More details here.
DiGi

For DiGi customers, just send “CHECK <Mobile Number>” to 2000. More details here.
Update: iData Plan could be added onto your existing Value Plus Plans!
New iData plans from Maxis for iPhone.
Just commit RM99 for 3GB data cap per month and the iPhone is yours for as low as RM1700 (24-months contract, 8GB).
The Maxis iData plan is just for data only. However, we’ve confirmed with Maxis that it is possible to add this on to your existing Value Plus Plans. This ultimately replace the previous 6 months Value Plus Plan for iPhone 3G.
DiGi plans to invest RM75 million over the next three years to roll out 3G broadband in Penang and Sabah.
DiGi’s Head of Strategy and New Business, Albern Murty said DiGi’s broadband coverage now stands at 31% of Penang’s population with plans to cover the whole of Penang by August.
DiGi 3G broadband covers Tanjung Tokong, along Gurney Drive, Penang International Airport, Queensbay Mall and parts of Georgetown.
DiGi says it has invested in High-Speed Packet Access technology to deploy a 14.4 Mbps for fast download and upload speeds of up to 2Mbps.
We’re a bit sceptical about the 31% population coverage in Penang though, as the source didn’t specifically say if its 3G or DiGi’s EDGE service combine. Remember, before 3G, DiGi claims EDGE service as broadband as well.
No words on other states in the report.

Update 23082009: Tune Talk has finally launched, read more here.

New comer TuneTalk has been quiet for some time now. If you didn’t know, it is an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) that rides on Celcom network. The people behind TuneTalk are from the same group that brought AirAsia and TuneHotels.
They had created some buzz in the aviation and hotel industry and we would expect them to do the same with mobile.
Now they have launched a microsite called Freedom2Talk.org which allows people to champion a cause and allows users to vote for them. Those who had the most votes will win a prize money to realise those cause.
Whether you sign up to fight for a new cause or to vote for one, you’ll get to register a free TuneTalk starter pack with your own desired number! The number availability is from the 010-53X XXXX number block.
What are you waiting for? Sign up now before your favorite number is taken away.
Update: P1 DV230 now officially available with existing plan. There’s no price difference and comes free with 2 years contract. Details here.

After the launch of the P1 Wiggy for mobile users, P1 is about to unveil a new desktop modem which is an improvement over its current DS 300. The DS 300 was P1′s first ever WiMAX device which has a very simple plug and play approach.
For those who wish to share the WiMAX connection had to buy their own WiFi router as the DS 300 has only a single LAN port. This week, P1 would be addressing this problem by introducing the DV 230 which comes with WiFi and more!

REDtone is one of the 4 WiMAX licensed operators in Malaysia. While P1, AMAX & YTL focuses in West Malaysia, REDtone is focused in East Malaysia.
August last year, they have officially launched in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah but they have yet to made any commercial availability to the market.
As reported earlier, they began to focus in Kuching, Sarawak. Now they have started to push their WiMAX aggressively with 5 WiMAX Plans from as low as RM138/month.

Yes, you read that right. U Mobile now offers U Buddy service at RM10/month to make free calls to all U Mobile numbers. As what FreshGear has written, this isn’t free anymore as postpaid users have to pay extra for it.
Previously, U Mobile offered a time limited promotion to its postpaid customers to make free calls on U Mobile network. Some genius up there tried to spin the promotion around by creating a gimmick by charging and yet calling it free. Instead, they should have called it Unlimited Calls within U Mobile instead of misusing the FREE word.
To top it off, even the name U Buddy Service sounds weird. Upon hearing this one would think of a bell boy or friend assist. If they ran out of creative juice, they should have name it something as simple as “Unlimited Calls Extra”.
First they can’t calculate 20% in their online flash game and now this. Somebody should buy them a dictionary and calculator.
