HTC has once again slashed the price of the HTC U Ultra, and they’re also bundling in the HTC RE camera with each purchase.
The Re Camera by HTC is a little camera accessory that targets the more casual “GoPro” users. Not only it is easier to hold, it is also water resistant and always ready to take a shot at a press of a button.
Now the Re Camera has added a new YouTube Live Stream feature, allowing you to share your epic moments in real time. The updated Re Camera app for Android will be rolled out tomorrow while iOS users would need to wait for a while. HTC says they are pushing the iOS companion app for Q1 2015 release.
After the update, you’ll just need to sign in to your YouTube channel from the Re Camera companion app. In order for the live stream to work, a faster 4G/WiFi connection would be more ideal and the battery life would definitely take some beating as the Re Camera requires constant WiFi connection to your phone.

HTC today launched two new imaging-focused devices in Malaysia, the Desire EYE and Re Camera. The Desire EYE that comes with 13MP cameras for both front and back will sell for RM1,699 and it will be available starting from today in Submarine Blue and Coral Red. Meanwhile, HTC’s handy, pocketable and always ready to take a snap, Re Camera will sell for RM699 from mid-December 2014 with three colours to choose from — Navy, Orange and White.
While the Desire range is can be consider as HTC’s mid-tier offering, the Desire EYE packs quite a punch with a 5.2″ Full HD display, 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage that’s expandable using microSD. Similar to the Butterfly 2, the Desire EYE is also water resistant up to 1 metre for 30 minutes and we liked how the micro-USB charging port is exposed without the need of flaps. The thoughtful design also continues for its microSD and nano-SIM trays which can be open without the need of troublesome pins.

When the Re Camera was announced, many were surprised with this odd looking device. The pipe design was unusual for a camera with some calling it a periscope or an inhaler. Initially thought as a GoPro competitor, the Re Camera isn’t just another action camera.
Over the weekend, HTC Malaysia had organised a photography outing in Melaka where we managed to have a chance to try out the Re Camera that’s paired with the Desire EYE. Both devices will be launched in Malaysia this coming Friday.
Is this a little remarkable camera? Read on to find out.
For starters, the Desire EYE is a selfie-centric device that comes with 13MP camera and dual-LED flash on both front and back. Despite its mid-range “Desire” name, the Desire EYE is on par with its flagship devices as it runs on a familiar 2.3GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM, along with 16GB of on-board storage.
Also included is a microSD expansion slot, 4G LTE, NFC and WiFi 802.11ac. To capture moments in more situations, the Desire EYE is also water resistant with IPX7 rating (1 metre deep for 30 minutes). The battery is quite small though, at 2,400mAh capacity. Apart from its hardware, HTC has also introduced its EYE Experience on its camera app, that opens up new imaging possibilities. The HTC EYE Experience was recently rolled out to current HTC One M8 devices via OTA (over the air) update.
At the moment, the Desire EYE imported unit is being sold at RM1,759.

The HTC Desire EYE won’t be the only HTC device that’s coming to Malaysia. It’s Re Camera is heading here too as it gets spotted in our local SIRIM certification database. Re is basically HTC’s answer to the GoPro but it is designed for the regular joe that uses it more for selfies and casual action shots.
The Re Camera was announced last month and it is shaped like a mini periscope for a natural handheld experience. There’s nothing much to mess around as you’ll get a big button at the back while its microUSB charging and microSD slots are placed at the bottom.
HTC is entering a whole a new category by introducing its new Re Camera. A new handheld device which is like a GoPro but it isn’t entirely. This periscope or inhaler looking device is meant for the non-extreme everyday use and while the design looks quirky, its tube-like shape makes it easier to hold without the need of optional sticks or mono-pods.
With a 16MP f/2.8 camera (Sony Sensor) and a wide-angle 146 degree lens, the Re Camera aims to be your secondary camera that you can carry all the time. The design is simple without on/off buttons and you can take photos immediately by pressing the silver shutter button at the back. For videos, all you’ll need is to long press the button to start recording up to Full HD 1080p in 30fps. It also takes slow motion videos at 120fps in 720p resolution.
