Smartphones are ubiquitous these days. In Malaysia, it’s pretty hard to get by without some kind of smartphone to run basic messaging and social media applications. But Malaysia’s in a bad spot and because our currency is so awful, a large majority of us can’t afford super expensive flagships.
And that’s where phones like the Moto M come in. Y’know, budget phones.

This post is brought to you by the Moto M.
Budget smartphones are a dime a dozen. You can find all sorts of devices at all sorts of price points but most of these devices all have something in common — there’s no mistaking the fact that they’re cheap.
That’s because most of these handsets focus all their efforts into on-paper specs and then abandon crucial features that actually make a smartphone enjoyable to use, comfortable to hold and effective as a daily driver.
If you’ve felt that way about budget smartphones thus far, Moto Malaysia has some good news for you. Meet the Moto M, a seriously good value smartphone that doesn’t skimp on the important bits.
The ZTE Axon 7 has finally arrived in Malaysia and it offers top of the line hardware with great emphasis on sound. If you’re looking for a different flagship smartphone, this could be the alternative that you have been looking for.
UPDATE: The Lenovo A7000 received a firmware update very recently and the new test scores reflect that.
The Lenovo A7000 is their latest addition in the mid-range smartphone segment that has been highly competitive with the likes of the Redmi Note and the Honor 4X. With the addition of Dolby Atmos tech and speakers, Lenovo hopes that the A7000 would stand out from the crowd.
Quite literally the first phone to sport Dolby Atmos which is more commonly seen in cinemas, the Lenovo A7000 is only the first in a line of Lenovo products to be sporting the technology. You can expect more Dolby Atmos enhanced devices with their upcoming Lenovo Tab 2 A8 and A10.
Is this a compelling choice when it comes to cheap and good phablets with 4G LTE? This is our review of the Lenovo A7000.
The Lenovo A7000 has a 1.5GHz octa-core MediaTek processor under the hood, alongside 2GB RAM and 8GB internal extandable storage with a microSD slot. Being a phablet device, it gets a 5.5 inch IPS HD display at 720p as well as a 8 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front shooter. The Lenovo A7000 will also be playing home to a 2,900mAh removable battery and it runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
The phone also can be used as a power bank to charge other devices.
UPDATE: The contest is now over. We’ve just sent an email to our 40 winners which contains the collection details. Thanks for participating!
Are you a big Avengers fan? The Avengers: The Age of Ultron is hitting the big screen this week and we have some movie tickets to give away. Thanks to Dolby, the Mind Blow network (consisting of TheSkop.com, TheHypedGeek and SoyaCincau.com) are giving out 40 pairs of tickets for a special screening at GSC 1 Utama this coming Saturday.
That’s not all. You’ll be watching The Avengers in a Dolby Atmos hall, which offers a more immersive experience than typical 5.1 and 7.1 surround systems. In fact, GSC 1 Utama is the first cinema hall to be Dolby Atmos enabled in Malaysia.
To stand a chance of winning, all you’ll need to do is answer the following question in not more than 20 words:
If you were an Avenger, who would you be and why? (We’ll also accept characters from the comics)
Give your answer and your particulars in the submission form over here. You’ve got to hurry as the contest ends on 23 April at 11.59pm. The lucky 40 winners (combined from all 3 sites) will be contacted via email. Do take note of the screening time below:
Date: 25th April 2015
Venue: GSC 1 Utama, Petaling Jaya
Want more Dolby Atmos movie experience? Dress up or cosplay as an Avenger or Marvel character and you stand a chance to win a year of Atmos movie tickets for the best dressed. You’ll also get free popcorn and drinks (subject to availability) when you attend this weekend.
