For all the internal storage our phones come with, sometimes it’s just not enough and you’ll soon find yourself looking for something extra. However, if you really want to go big, SanDisk has revealed a brand new version of their 400GB microSD card, if that paltry 32GB isn’t enough for you.
Asus kicked off its year with a big party at Mobile World Congress 2018 announcing three new phones, the ZenFone Lite, the ZenFone 5 and the flagship ZenFone 5Z. We’ll talk about the ZenFone Lite in a later post, for now I want to concentrate on the two more interesting models – the ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5z.
The ZenFone 5 is the most intelligent smartphone Asus has ever made, or so they claim. The device was introduced with a range of what Asus claim is AI technology enhancing seven key performance aspects of the device – AI Display, AI Camera, AI Ringtone, AI Gallery, AI Charging, AI Boost, AI Photo Learning.
Before we go into details on the what these AI enhancements do, let’s talk about the specs of the ZenFone 5.
Last year’s Galaxy S8 and S8+ were launched at a critical time for Samsung as they were just recovering from the Galaxy Note7 fiasco. Samsung wasn’t just trying to win back the trust of their customers, but they also aim to set a new benchmark on what a smartphone could be. The result is a stunning flagship duo with the Infinity Display taking centre stage. Arguably, Samsung was the company that made “Full View” smartphones a trend for 2017.
Fast forward a year later, we have these two, the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+. At first glance, you might think Samsung is getting complacent by recycling the same design. If improvement means to you a larger screen, more cameras and bigger battery, then you’re going to be disappointed. However, if you look deeper, you’ll find that these two smartphones are very different from its predecessors.

There are many words that could be used to describe the Nokia 8, but for me, the one word that sticks out is: Disappointing. Even though I repeatedly told myself that it would never live up to the hype, it was still disheartening to see how far it missed the mark. And that made me a little angry at Nokia for what felt like a half-hearted attempt.
Still, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they’re new to this. Maybe they just didn’t have the technical capabilities to produce the kind of flagship-grade hardware that would match their flagship’s excellent software. Then I saw the Nokia 8 Sirocco and I got even more angry because it was living proof (figuratively) that Nokia could make something exquisite — that they could make something special — but for some reason, didn’t.
This is probably the best deal yet for an iPhone X in Malaysia. Lazada is currently running a limited-time promo where you can get the iPhone X 64GB with AirPods (worth RM849) for less than RM5,000. Overall, that’s lower than the RM5,149 retail price of the iPhone X 64GB model.
If you’re looking for some great deals on Apple products, you might want to check out the Switch Warehouse Clearance sale happening from 2nd to 4th March.
Of course some of the units on offer are ex-demo units or end-of-life (EOL) units and some are just plain old models but hey where can you get an iPhone 6S for RM800. Yes, the iPhone 6S is already three years but it’s still a capable phone for the price of a basic Android phone today.
And if you check Apple’s website, a brand new iPhone 6S retails for RM2,249. So the demo unit being offered at the Switch Warehouse Clearance is RM1,449 cheaper – that’s almost 3 times cheaper.
There are other products on offer at the clearance as well, if you’re looking for the iPad or iPad Pro (both 9.7 and 12-inch models are available). There are deals on Macs and MacBooks. Check out the full list of Apple products on offer below.
The Switch Warehouse Clearance Sale is happening at Switch, MyTown Shopping Mall, KL from 2nd to 4th March 2018. As with these things most of the time, terms and conditions apply.

Like the Wakandans in Black Panther, smartphone makers happened upon a source of incredible power with near unlimited potential: The 18:9 aspect ratio display with super slim bezels. Whoever wielded this power could put big screens into small smartphone bodies in a way that hadn’t been done before, opening up a world of possibilities when it came to smartphone design.
However, for the most part, everyone became obsessed with putting even bigger displays into even larger smartphone bodies. That is, until today. Today, Sony launched two brand new smartphones — the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact — and one of them is the kind of smartphone I’ve been pining for since I reviewed the iPhone 8. There’s just one problem.

Nostalgia is a funny thing, it plays tricks on you. Nostalgia fills the gaps in your memories to make it seem that what you remember from the past are as good as you think they were, you reminisce. The problem with nostalgia is that sometimes what you remember and what actually happened are two different things.
When Nokia announced the 8110 4G in Barcelona ahead of the Mobile World Congress, the stage was filled with talk about nostalgia for the phone and the Matrix – the cult-classic that made the original 8110 famous.
Among the new phones that Sony revealed this MWC in Barcelona, are the Xperia Ear Duo, a wireless headset that looks like a hearing aid but allows you to use it to its full potential without taking your attention off your surroundings.
