Fresh from CES 2018, Sony Mobile Malaysia has introduced its new Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra. These are their latest mid-range smartphones that are designed to take on the selfie-centric market that’s heavily dominated by the likes of OPPO, vivo and Huawei. Unlike its previous XA and XA1 smartphones, the new Xperia XA2 series is now powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 processor.

Xperia XA2

The Xperia XA2 is the smaller of the two as it gets a 5.2″ Full HD display. It runs on a Snapdragon 630 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage which is expandable via microSD. The front gets an 8MP f/2.4 selfie camera that has a 120-degree super-wide angle lens while the rear gets a 23MP f/2.0 shooter with Hybrid AutoFocus which can shoot videos in 4K. Instead of placing the camera close to the edge, the main camera is now mounted in the middle.

Powering the device is a 3,300mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 3.0 via USB-C. Unlike previous Xperia models, the fingerprint sensor is now mounted at the rear underneath its main camera. The Xperia XA2 is available in Silver, Black, Blue and Pink.

Xperia XA2 Ultra

The Xperia XA2 Ultra is a 6.0″ phablet that also pushes a Full HD resolution. You also get the same Snapdragon 630 processor but RAM is bumped up to 4GB and it has double the storage at 64GB.

The main highlight is its dual-selfie cameras with flash. The first selfie-camera is a 16MP f/2.0 camera with OIS, while the second unit is an 8MP f/2.4 camera for wide-angle shots. The camera at the rear is same as the XA2 with a 23MP Exmor RS camera that can do 4K videos.

Since this is a larger device, it gets a 3,580mAh battery which also charges via USB-C. The XA2 Ultra comes in Silver, Black, Blue and Gold. Out of the box, both XA2 and XA2 Ultra are running on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo.

Xperia L2

Also announced for Malaysia is their entry-level Xperia L2. It has a 5.5″ HD 720p display with a MediaTek MT6737T processor. The device comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage which is also expandable via microSD.

For taking pictures, it gets an 8MP f/2.4 selfie camera with 120-degree super wide angle lens and a main 13MP f/2.0 shooter. Keeping the lights on is a 3,300mAh battery which also charges via USB-C. The Xperia L2 comes in Black, Gold and Pink, and it still runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Sony Xperia XA2 is officially priced at RM1,299, while the bigger Xperia XA2 Ultra with dual-selfie cameras is priced at RM1,999. The Xperia XA2 will be available for pre-order starting from 20 January until 31 January 2018 at all Sony Mobile stores, Sony Centres and authorised dealers. It’s also available for online pre-order via 11Street.

As a pre-order promo for the Xperia XA2 Ultra, customers will stand a chance to redeem complimentary gifts such as RM200 rebate, a UCH2W Quick Charger, a 1+1 year extended warranty, transparent case and a Nano Screen Protector, all worth up to RM600.

XA2 didn’t bundled with Fast Charger ka?

Tried to search at 11 street, but can’t find. Link?

Now only need to compare prices with Nokia 6 ’18.

As usual, Sony tend to overprice their phones.

Price hike for Xperia L2; their entry level phone, is the most unacceptable. Mediatek phone like Xperia L2 should be priced around RM799 not around RM1000.

Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 prices incremental increase of RM100 from the previous generation should be compensated by a bit more free gifts for example Sony powerbank or wireless headphones apart from RM200 rebate, extended warranty 1+1 year, nano screen protector, transparent case and Quick Charger UCH2w.

Dont worry Xperia phone is the one of the brand which has their prices dropped early in year. You just need to wait patiently.

That’s true, MWC 2018 just around the corner. The price will decrease upon arrival of the new phones from MWC 2018.
Really disappointed that XA2 is not even mentioned clearly for getting free gifts including RM200 rebate or not or any sort of free gifts.

A “former flagships” specifications mixed up into low midrange phone such like Xperia XA2 is a very good value for money.

You are right at 1999 it’s at the price range of oneplus 5t and honor v10. Both have flagship soc

Xa2 rm1299 not too bad, if can use for 2 years 1 month around rm50++ which is a ‘standard’ price for an ‘usable’ phone.

Wished the XA2 is priced like its earlier two iterations but considering the upgrade, I consider it worth er… considering.

Sony please stop making ugly phones with HUGE top and bottom bezels. They are so yesterday, outdated and iphonish.
Sony used to make decent looking phones but not anymore. Wake up Sony!

uh huh

Besides XA2, the other models are overpriced. V10 and OP5T are a better option than the XA2 Ultra. But the smaller XA2 though is not bad at all.

Definitely, when compared to moto x4 with the same processor

    Xclusive Xperience

Xperia XA non Ultra always get a good record since its first generation during its own time albeit some lacks. Perhaps to cut down hardware cost.

XA2 almost perfect it with its stunning edge to edge display similar like Samsung S7 edge and doesn’t bend to 18:9 trend.
If only it is using Snapdragon 660 but it is intended as low mid range, I can’t compain more.

However, ultra version for XA series always can’t get it right especially when comes to its asking price. For high midrange, this XA2 Ultra almost breaking RM2k barrier, just slightly below it. It is not worth to get premium midrange price such like Honor 8 Pro and honor V10. High midrange suppose to be priced around RM1499 until RM1799 not over it.

The rule is simple, never be the 1st is worth to wait 🙂
