Apart from the honor 7X, honor Malaysia has also announced the honor View 10 flagship smartphone for our local market. In case you didn’t know, it was first introduced in China as the honor V10 and it shares a lot of similarities with the Huawei Mate 10 series.
Like most devices released these days, the honor View 10 gets a 5.99″ display that comes in an 18:9 aspect ratio with a FullHD+ resolution of 2160×1080. Under the hood, it gets a top of the line Kirin 970 processor that comes with its own NPU for AI-intensive tasks. For Malaysia, the View 10 that we’re getting will come with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
In terms of build, the back of the View 10 doesn’t seem to be as flush as the honor 8 Pro or the honor 7X. Instead of a full metal unibody design, it seems that it uses a different material for the sides of the device. The dual-camera bump sticks out prominently like the honor 7X and the only way to tell that it isn’t the honor 7X is the lack of a fingerprint sensor at the back. On the View 10, the fingerprint sensor is now placed at the front, which honor says is a more practical location.
Speaking of cameras, the honor View 10 gets a 20MP monochrome + 16MP RGB sensor combo. Before you think this is similar to the Mate 10 series, the View 10 lacks OIS and it uses an f/1.8 aperture instead of a faster f/1.6 lens. Over at the front, it gets a 13MP f/2.0 selfie shooter
Since it rocks a Kirin 970 processor, honor is pushing AI as a key differentiator for their latest flagship. Apart from recognising scenes better when taking pictures, the NPU on the Kirin 970 processor can also be used for offline translations via an app that’s developed by Microsoft.
Powering the View 10 is a large 3,750mAh battery which also charges via USB Type-C. To replenish the phone quickly, it also comes bundled with a SuperCharge charger that pushes 5V/4.5A. For those who listen to music a lot would be happy to know that it still retains the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack. Out of the box, it runs on the latest EMUI 8.0 which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo.
In terms of availability, the honor View 10 will be available in Malaysia on 15 January 2018. No pricing details have been revealed yet but we expect it to cost more than RM2,000 since it’s priced at 3,499CNY (about RM2,176) in China.
