Xiaomi’s new Mi 4i will hit our shores this month in May. While we wait for Xiaomi Malaysia’s official announcement, our southern neighbour will commence its Mi 4i sales next Tuesday, 12th May at noon. In Singapore, the Mi 4i is priced at S$279, which is RM753 when converted directly with today’s rates. As usual, only the White colour version is available for purchase.
So when is Malaysia’s turn? The device has already passed our local SIRIM certification, so it is likely to be officially available in the weeks to come. Just recently, the higher-spec Mi 4 model has finally went on sale in Malaysia but it comes only with 2G/3G support. Without 4G LTE, the Mi 4’s asking price of RM1,199 is a bit too much to ask considering there are better flagships out there with 4G support.
So if you’re looking for faster connectivity, the Mi 4i would be a better option. It gets a 5″ Full HD display that’s optimised for outdoor use and powering it is a mid-range 2nd generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa-Core processor that’s mated to 2GB of RAM. On-board it gets 16GB of storage and it also comes with a 13MP main and 5MP front camera. In terms of battery, it has a larger 3,120mAh battery which is one of the largest capacity in the 5″ smart phone category. It supports dual-SIMs with 4G LTE. Out of the box, it runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with their own MIUI 6 interface on top.
Need something bigger? The 5.7″ Mi Note appears to be making its way into Malaysia. It was also recently spotted in SIRIM’s database and it is likely to be priced around RM1,300-RM1,400 (2,299 CNY) once it gets here.
