More images of the baby Xperia Z1 dubbed as the Xperia Z1 f have surfaced in a form of NTT Docomo’s product brochure. Now the Xperia Z1 f is said to be available with a choice of 4 colours – Black, White, Pink and Lime.
The mini Xperia Z1 is looking like a real deal but so far it seems to be a Japan market specific model. It is still unknown if this will be introduced for international markets. Usually Sony would have a separate offering for international markets like for example its Xperia Z1 for Japan offers a larger 32GB of on-board storage with additional Infrared Port that’s lacking for the rest of the world.
Earlier it was mentioned that the Xperia Z1 f will feature a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, 20.7MP camera, 4.3″ 720p HD display and a smaller 2,300mAh battery. Despite its smaller dimensions, it also retains the same water and dust resistant properties of its bigger 5″ Xperia Z1 sibling.

Cameras on smart phones are getting better each year. Apart from having bigger pixel counts, manufacturers have started to put more emphasis on pixel size, sensor size and optical image stabiliser as well. So far, Samsung has yet to utilise an Optical Image Stabiliser on its compact smart phone (with exception of the bulky S4 Zoom).
To step up their game, Samsung has announced a new 13MP camera sensor which boast superior OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser) with a correction angle of 1.5 degrees as opposed to typical correction angle of 0.7 degrees. Basically a bigger correction angle allows more compensation to unwanted movements while shooting a picture. In addition, the new sensor promises lower power consumption and 8 times better low light performance than standard smart phone camera sensors. The new 13MP shooter is expected to debut with Samsung’s 2014 flagship models.
UPDATE: Lumia 1020 vs Xperia Z1 vs Note 3 Photo photo samples compared.
We had tested out the Nokia Lumia 1020, Sony Xperia Z1 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 over the weekend. While in the midst of compiling the comparison photos, here are some sample video comparison for the 3 latest smart phones.
The Nokia Lumia and Xperia Z1 shoots at a maximum of Full HD 1080p resolution while the Note 3 is capable of shooting 4K videos. Having 4K seems to be a plus point for the Note 3 on paper, but it is hard to judge its playback due to lack of 4K hardware at the moment. However it is interesting to point out that YouTube does support 4K videos and it can be triggered as Original HD under the quality settings.
